Accent Lighting

The most common types of lighting are ....general,  task,  and accent.      I think  most of  us have the general and task lights scattered around the  room,  but what about accent lighting?

I like the charm that up lighting adds to a room.......

Up lighting can be easily added to a room with a can light.   Just place your small light in a dark corner of your room and I think you will be delighted with the result.

Here is the before and after photo of the same corner in our family room with and without up lighting.

When I added the up light,   I also changed the styling in the corner too.

I used the shelving unit from the hallway and also some of the decor too.

So,  what's going on in the hallway?

Everything has been moved out and the hallway is getting a fresh coat of paint and new flooring!    Can't wait to show you when it's done.....

I don't plan to put the shelving unit back in the hallway,  so for now it has a new home in the family room.

The vintage sewing machine drawers will probably go back where they were in the hallway......

Did you notice thecorner has been invaded with a group of pink owls?

I had bought a couple of pink owls back in April,   and when I was in Michaels the other day and saw several marked down 70%,  I picked up a few more.

I have them scattered around.......

Decorating with owls.....it must be getting close to fall!

H is painting the hall today and the crew will be here Monday to start laying the new flooring.    I am beyond excited about the new flooring.....the hall carpet is more than 20 years old and  needs replacing!

  1. Oh- have fun painting---lol---the necessary evil you want to do BEFORE new flooring goes down. I love lighting in a room. I think I have a lamp fixation..but since deciding to move I have been paring down and giving my girls lights and lamps. You are right- lighting makes all the difference in a room. xo Diana

  3. Penny, I too have use up lights in corners ever since I saw it done many years ago on the Christopher Lowell show which I used to love!! Looking forward to see your hall way update. And the owls are cute!! I am going to Michaels to cash in a coupon for 20% off all items. I need some simple supplies like glue sticks, Candle bulbs, E6000 glue, etc. I am so looking forward to Fall because then maybe i will get to spend a bit of time outside because this Summer has been way too hot for that!!

  8. We just finished painting four rooms and the hallway in our house as well as the outside doors. I would love to be getting new flooring as well but not yet. I love the tree and the up lights really make a difference. I have never used those. You have such a pretty home, Penny.
