| This sweet Valentine was sent to my Grandma (Velma Dell Smith) in 1928 or 29. (Grandma wrote the TO part on it with the year she received it.... as best she could remember) |

All the other Valentines in this post were sent to my mother when she was a little girl.... 100's of them that my Grandma saved for her.......but did my mother save even 1 of mine? NOOOO...lol I LOVE YOU Mother! |

ReplyDeletePenny I took after my Mom, always saved things, but this gene has skipped my daughter! I used to have the Valentine boxes that my Mom saved, they used to decorate the candy boxes so lavishly, but somehow I have lost them, I guess in moving. But every Valentines Mom would have them displayed on her Living Room Couch, along with red balloons she would blow up and pile on the couch too. It was always so much fun to see. This is just so neat. I have some vintage Valentines..most I have collected. None from chidhood. My mother just saved baby items..and not much of those. No matter...I am collecting on my own and three just arrived today. I have another package or two to go.

ReplyDeletePenny, those are GREAT! When we packed up Mamaw's house after she passed, we came across half a dozen old heart-shaped candy boxes STUFFED with old Valentines and other family memorabilia. What a treasure!

I have 10 or so vintage ones and all have been purchased quite a few years ago. Love the names and dates on the backs. I have a couple with moving eyes. And my Maternal Grandmom was gone to Jesus before I was old enough to know her . So your having all this wonderful memorabilia from your Grandmom touches my heart. Just loveliness.
