Duncan Phyfe Desk

Over the years we have found 4 Duncan Phyfe tables that we "couldn't live without" lol!   Our daughter needed a table a few years ago and we gave her one ...still have three!   H painted one of them white and we use it in the family/dining room.  Two of them were pushed together in the formal dining room to make a huge table...with all the leaves in both tables, we could seat about 20 people.   How often do I need to seat 20 people...seldom...never!  
So, I decided to make some changes in the formal dining room...this is stage one.  I took one of the tables and with a minor alteration, it became a desk...but first, I want to show you this silver casserole dish holder....

How many of these have you seen at the yard sales and, of course,  the glass dish is missing?  I see them all the time for about .25, so I had several of them.  H painted this one pink...my favorite color!   I put it on my "new" Duncan Phyfe desk and filled it with a small white tabletop chandy, some old books tied together with a little bird on top.  I then added a pink vintage clock and a spray of roses to the front of the vignette.

This is how the dining room looks now.....one small Duncan Phyfe (no leaves in it) is in the center of the room and the other one is in the corner being used as a desk.

This is how H altered the table to make a desk.....he just removed the drop down leaf on one side 

I wish I had got a better picture of the vintage pink phone on the desk...can you see it on the left side of the desk?

The before  picture shows the dining room at Christmas with both tables pushed together and no leaves in.....with all the leaves in, it takes up the whole dining area and will seat about 20.

The after picture shows it now, with a table to seat 4-6 and my new desk.   This new arrangement leaves quite a bit of room on the other end of the dining area ...I will show you what changes I made there later!

So, the desk in the formal dining room sets on the other side of this "lace wall" that I made for the sofa to sit  in the family room.  

I can't wait to show you the changes in the rest of the room!
