Repurposed Twin Bed

I found this twin bed last Saturday at a yard sale and couldn't pass it up .......$10.    I didn't really know what I would use it for .....maybe use the headboard as a chalkboard.....I would figure out something

When I looked out my kitchen window at this sad excuse for a "flower bed" in the back yard.....I knew exactly what I would do with it.    We had removed most of the flowers when I took this photo,  but my flower bed really needed some attention.

We finished removing the rest of the flowers except for one rose bush that my daughter had given me a few years ago.    H gave the iron bed a coat of white paint,   scraped and painted the wood frame and freshened up the paint on the twin bed.   Then he married the new bed to the existing iron bed and here is the reveal.....

TADA!!!

Then I got busy planting my new flower bed.......

I added several yard ornaments.   like this sweet dragonfly......

I love these jeweled dragonflies,   they add bling to the garden.

I added some rocks in blank spots in the "bed".

Can you spot my turtle hiding in the Vinca?    I also added a few faux flowers in spots that needed "just a little something more"

I tied a umbrella to the headboard and put out a chair for me to sit in!

Shower curtain barn doors and shower curtain flag......

Sorry H,   there was only room for one chair.....for me....lol!    Well,  maybe I'll let you sit in it sometimes!

Where did all the plants come from to fill up my flower bed?

If you look down the side of the studio....way down..... where the pink bathtub is.    You may remember a post I did a while back and  tub was full of plants,   They are all in the flower bed now.   That's what I love about container gardening,   If you don't like a flower where it is,  you just jerk it up and move it.    If one dies,   just toss it and fill in with a new one.

I can't wait to show you what I'm going to do with my empty tub!

  1. Cute, I remember as a kid that a neighbor had a garden "bed" made from an old metal bed.

  2. Love it! Did you make the umbrella out of petticoats? Does it rain there?

  13. What in the world do you do when it rains? Does all of that stuff stay out year round, because I cannot image that items wouldn't need to be constantly touched up w/paint, and what have you.

  16. Penny,
I am playing catch up. I had major dental work done and I am a bit under the weather still. I love all your "Flower Beds"!!! I thought of doing something like this when we got rid of the single bed in the Sitting room but our yard is just too small. I love those jeweled dragon flies.
    Hugs,
    Debbie
