Diy Custom Fabric Rug

I have shopped around for an area rug to put in the sunvroom for a long.....long....time.    I came upon a tutorial on how to make a custom fabric rug and thought to myself .....this is just what I need for the sun room!

So  come on in and see what you think of my new custom fabric rug.

It matches the fabric on the chair,  ottoman,  and two of the pillows on the sofa.

I bought all this RL bedroom set at a yard sale a few week ago  ($30 for all of it).

I only used three king size sheets and 3 pillow cases for this project,   so I still have lots of fabric left!

At the end of my post,  I will give you a link to the tutorial that I used for my custom fabric rug.

Before..................................................After
I used the existing rug for the base....sprayed the top of it with adhesive glue.....laid my king sheet on the glue....pressed  out any wrinkles with my hand.......flipped my rug over to the back side........glued the 5" excess sheet to the bottom.....added my duct tape....well,  it's all in the tutorial...lol!

I used 1 and a half king size flat sheets to make a slip cover for the side chair .

Before...........................................After

I didn't want to cover up much of my new rug,   so I used an airy Duncan Phyfe three tired harp table as my coffee table.

Then I created a simple vignette on my coffee table.

I didn't make any changes to the rest of the sun room,  but since I have lots of left over fabric.......

Maybe  cover another pillow for the chair to the left of the sofa......

Replace the fabric on my bird condo.......

Recover the cushions on these two chairs.....

and these two rockers......

Maybe cover the rocker cushions with the coordinating print that has larger flowers.

I might even add some touches of fabric to the windows,   nothing that would obstruct the view to the back yard of course

Now for the link to the tutorial that I promised.....http://allparenting.com/my-home/articles/967055/diy-fabric-rug-tutorial

If I don't have any issues with this rug,   I may try to redo some of the older rugs that I have stored in the studio!

  1. I think the rug and the pale yellow, brings a bit of interest into the room. I'm sure you will enjoy having a sunny look at least part of the time. I personally love patterns and have to restrain myself from clobbering every room with them. Thanks for all your posts, I have been lax in responding even though I have enjoyed them all. Sandi
