Wild Sunflowers from the Fields of New Mexico

The late summer fields of wild sunflowers are just gorgeous here in Eastern New Mexico right now.....

This pretty field is out in the country about 15 miles from our home......

One year I planted a few sunflower seeds in the back yard next to the greenhouse and thought the plants would only get about knee high.....boy was I in for a surprise

Whether I pick wild sunflowers from the field or in my own back yard,   I always manage to harvest some to use in my fall decor

I always get carried away and pick way too many flowers,   so my bouquets are ginormous

Our rose garden is still blooming so I tucked a few of those in to add some more color to my design

Last week I spotted this sunflower patch in a yard about a mile from our house .....

So,  I got out of the car and took a few photo's of their garden.

This is one of the few photo's you will ever see of H.
We had went out to one of our friends field to pick up a few pumpkins....and in this part of the country they plant sunflowers in with the pumpkins.  If you look at the ground behind H you can see a couple of pumpkins on the ground      Anyway,   H was also getting some sunflowers too.    Now they grow big sunflowers around here....remember we live 8 miles from the Texas border and everything is bigger in Texas    Look down about where H's knee is and you can see the head on this one....it's huge

I made a wreath with one of the big sunflower heads to hang on the front door.....

And here is a cluster of sunflower heads  on the front porch behind my white wicker settee....

I haven't made a trip to the sunflower field yet this year so stay tuned.....

See You Later.....

  1. OH so fun! We have a few sunflower fields near us but nothing with heads the size of those!

  2. Sunflowers are my favorite! I haven't visited a field this year but planted some at my house again. We forgot to water them at the beginning so not many came up. I will do better next year!
