Hoosier Desk

I have been cleaning and making some changes in the kitchen today.  I decided to make me a place to sit, have a cup of  tea, read my cookbooks and just relax in the sun.  I think that I will replace this chair with a comfy wicker chair that I like better  .....when it warms up (it's cold today) I'll go out to the studio and get it!
I put some of my collection of cookbooks on the top of the hoosier.   .I have used two of H's vintage mixers as bookends...On the first shelf , there are some white ironstone pitchers...
I put a sweet Easter lamb and some vintage plates on the second shelf...

And have a bouquet of fresh pink roses on the desk...

I have  quite a variety of  vintage cookbooks behind the roll top  I love to collect the cookbooks that the church ladies put out.  They are the best cooks!!! ...I have out my Candlelight Cuisine  for Romantic Dining cookbook.....one of my favorites...

and I'm ready to look at the desserts!

I have plenty of room to the right of my new desk to spread out....books, magazines, tea, plants....

I bought a Shamrock plant the other day at the grocery store...I've never had one before, do they bloom again or just in the spring?

I will enjoy some tea and a little snack later...

Here's a vignette on the side table ...
and some more cook books.

On the left is now...on the right is before!

I really like my new kitchen desk and can't wait to show you the other changes in the kitchen!  Be back soon!

  6. I love your Hoosier and it is perfect for a lady's desk! You'll really enjoy that. I used to have a Shamrock....years ago. They had the most delicate white flower. I think they'll bloom more than once a year if you fertilize it!

  26. Hi, what does "hoosier" mean (I'm from downunder)?! Looks like a great spot though!

  27. Your hoosier is beautiful! I've never seen one with the roll-top section. Looks like the perfect spot to plan menus and grocery lists. I adore Shamrock plants, and yes they do re-bloom if given the right light conditions. I had one several years ago that had grown to be HUGE sitting close to an East-facing window. Unfortunately, our cat at the time decided she liked the taste of it and would literally mow it down -- not kidding! I was afraid it might make her sick, so I got rid of it. I'd love to try another one and hope our current cat doesn't find it so delectable. I just love how the plant goes to sleep at night.

  28. Hello there dear Penny,

Love your hosier cabinet desk area!... It is all delightfully charming, festive and pretty!... I especially loved your whimsical little extra touches of the St. Patrick's day themed details such as the Shamrock plant, the teapot and tea pretties, the Asparagus cookie jar and the pink roses along with the darling little lamb perched upon the shelf on the vintage lace, your vintage mixers as bookends. And on the first shelf, your lovely white ironstone pitchers... Oh My!

It's all so utterly dreamy, charming, pretty and fresh white, inviting and just plain adorable... I also love that you have at the ready to enjoy and peruse your variety of vintage cookbooks. No wonder you are so delighted with and enjoy this cozy space of yours.

Have a happy St. Patrick's Day and a wonderful week.

Cheers, blessings and hugs from Wanda Lee
