Vintage Desk with a Pull Out Table

I bought this unique desk at my friends yard sale several years ago for $25.    I don't know what the formal name for this piece of furniture is....but I call it my vintage desk with a pull out table!    After so much wonderful input from my blogging friends,  I think it is a desk for your sewing machine and a pull out table to cut fabric on!   Thank you all so much for the helpful info about my desk ....I love my blogging friends!

It is a perfect table for me to do crafts on....  or I could use it as a desk if I needed to.

In the first photo the desk is under that white sheet on the right side of the photo.....

The second photo was taken a few days ago,  after we did some spring cleaning in the studio......

The third photo was taken today after H gave her a beautiful coat of pale pink paint!
My friend had painted the leaves white,  but had left the rest of the desk the original color.   You can see how versatile this desk is....it can be a desk or with all the leaves in it...a 10 foot table.
H didn't paint the extenders....he left them original wood where the table will open and close easily  (paint might clog the mechanism)
I only had H put in three of the four leaves....that makes the table exactly the length I need for now.    I can always add the fourth leaf if I need the table to be bigger.

What are those metal things on the table you ask...lol...
they are commercial bread baking pans.....
I bought all of them at the auction last Saturday for $7.50.....
The bread pans are perfect to separate craft supplies,,,,
They are in sheets of 4 or 5 pans per sheet.....  and they are stackable when not in use on the table.
How cool is that!

I hung  few things on the "door" wall behind the table.   The door wall separates this part of the studio from a room that I used for totes ....if I ever get that room cleaned up,  I'll give you a tour!   (don't hold you breath though...lol)
I planted some pansies in large enamel pots that are filled with rose potpourri....all the petals from my own garden.
I have a train case filled with other goodies to use in my craft projects.
See how the bread pans stack neatly on the floor.    You can't fill them as full as I have filled the ones on the table if you want to stack them though.

H and I are really having fun working on the studio,   and I can't wait to show you more of our progress!

  1. I have a desk/table like yours. Mine is a beautiful cherry wood and extends the same as your does. I use mine in my little office off of the kitchen. I inherited mine from a elderly aunt about 15 years ago. Auntie used hers as a dining room table. I just love mine and I am sure you really love yours too. You got a terrific deal for $25.00.
Thanks for sharing Penny - I have never seen another likes ours.
    Have a great week.

  3. That is a great table. I'm not sure if it was exactly a dining room table when it started out but it sure is practical. I would probably use it as a sewing table because it looks like it is big enough to accommodate laying out a pattern on it..and then could be shortened for the rest of the time. GREAT little piece! xoDiana

  4. ONE OF MY RELATIVES HAD A TABLE LIKE THAT AND IT WAS A SEWING TABLE. ONE END YOU WOULD SET THE SEWING MACHINE ON AND THE REST WAS FOR LAYING OUT PATTERNS, CUTTING, AND SUCH. BEFORE IT WAS THE ONLY ONE I HAD EVER SEEN!

  29. A friend of ours is having an estate sale and I was over helping them price things. Came across a table exactly like yours, but his came with 6 or maybe it was 8 folding/wicker bottom chairs that matched the table. There was a stamp inside the desk with the name and it was from the 50s. I am waiting for them to send me an email of the photo I took, so I can research it more. I thought it was a student desk that folded out to a dining table (because of all of the matching fold up chairs). What a great find you have!
