Kyleigh's Play Kitchen & Doll Nursery

We have been making some changes and organizing the studio the last few weeks.   One of the changes that we made, was to make a play kitchen and doll nursery for our 7 yr old granddaughter.   We 'walled" off about a 6x12 foot area for her to play in....we used several  storage lockers and a wooden cabinet to make the "wall".   We keep Kyleigh several days a week while our daughter is up in a helicopter transporting critical patients.
Kyleigh has a little apartment size refrigerator that came out of one of our rentals several years ago.   Of course,  we child proofed it by removing the latch.....she's pretty big and I don't think she could fit in there, but you can't be too careful!

H painted it a pale pink,  and I added a light inside where she can see her "food".   H used exterior Valspar paint in a color called Utterly Pink.   We have used this outdoor paint on our vintage metal chairs that are outside year round and it has held up very well.   The shelves on the door are in pretty bad shape,  so I hung some vintage aprons over them with clothes pins.....just to kind of cover them up...lol!
Kyleigh plays with my faux fruit and vegetables.   She loves to play "restaurant" and makes beautiful fruit plates to serve us.   She also likes to play "gala"  and she sets up a pretty buffet on my work table for the guests.
Next to the apt size refrig is an old ice box that H bought many years ago on one of our Longest Yard sale trips.   He gave it a fresh coat of white paint.   It is pretty dark back in this corner of the studio, so we added plenty of lamps.....H hung a pretty blue leaded glass lamp that puts out lots of light.   The blue light is a $5 yard sale find that we have had many years.   The last time you saw it was on the front porch turned upside down and filled with plants!

Kyleigh calls this old ice box her pantry....it has her dishes in it.
I let her use my old toaster and small coffee pot....there isn't much around here that I don't let her play with.   She is pretty careful and we haven't lost too many things....yet....lol!

Here is Kyleigh's  little stove....it is just her size!     It belonged to my dad......
She has a cute vintage pink canister set on the top shelf.    All of her cooking supplies are small ....like her.   The little baking pan is an old one and is about 5" square.    She has two little cast iron skillets and the metal one belonged to my grandmother.
I wanted to show you the little cupboard that is on the side of the stove.    H gave it a coat of pink paint, but I failed to get a before picture....it was a dark wood.     Kyleigh has a big white roasting pan on her cabinet....it's her pretend sink.
This is her cooking station.   She works on a vintage metal cabinet that H used as a coffee station for the employees at the freight terminal.    It was white.....sorry, but again I failed to get a before photo!   H is so fast with that pink paint that I can't keep up with him....lol!
I painted one of H's mixers.....you saw in an earlier post that he has about 20 of them so I'm hoping he won't miss just this one.....anyway,  I gave it a coat of pink enamel paint.
The drawer is full of old cooking gadgets that Kyleigh uses to mash potato's....etc.     The rest of the cabinet is empty , but I'm sure she will find something to put in there!
Here is Kyleigh's baby nursery.......she also calls it her "clinic"    She has a bunch of medical supplies in that white wicker hand bag sitting by the cabinet.
She wanted more babies,  but I put my foot down and said "this is all you have room for"
This is a pretty floral baby bed that a friend of mine gave to me when she was moving and didn't have room for it.   It was used  as a baby bed for her now grown children and I was honored that she would give it to me.   I thought I would look nice in the nursery as wall decor
I found this cute light at a yard sale a while back for a couple of dollars....

H hung the baby bed springs on the back of the locker to make a memory board for Kyleigh.   She has clipped a few things on it.   The second photo is the little suit that Kyleigh came home from the hospital in.....there is a sweet little bonnet that matches it,  it's not lost....but I can't find it right now!
        No wall......................................................................................Locker and cabinet "wall"
Front side of locker wall, work area for me ................................................back side of locker wall,  play room for Kyleigh

I bet you are wondering what is behind this door!   Well,  it's my worst nightmare.....a big messy store room!      I don't know if  I'll ever be able to get it in good enough shape to show anyone...lol!

And here is Miss Kyleigh.......
She loves here play kitchen.....
and doll nursery!

We will have lots of fun playing in the studio this summer.....making wonderful memories...

  20. What a lovely place for a little girl to play. I am too old to babysit or do any childcare anymore...and my daughter's, the grandma's are the ones that get to do that. However..I do have one end of my livingroom that is for little granddaughters, or any little girl that comes to visit..and a shed full of toys, a tent and big wagon etc. It all comes out when they come to visit.
Your little granddaughter is a beautiful child! :)
