Gone Junkin

We had a cold front pass thru eastern New Mexico over the week end.   Cloudy skies....cooler temps....feels like fall!

On Friday we drove over to Portales, NM  (about 20 miles from here)   There is a group of the sweetest ladies that have a sale once a year in one of the buildings at the fair grounds.
Their building sits across the road from this display of old windmills.    I  hope you enjoy seeing them as much as we did.   This big windmill came from Roswell, NM ....home of the aliens!   Roswell is about 100 miles south of  where we live.
On Saturday we went to the auction and stopped by some yard sales......I found a few things...lol.....don't I always!
First I wanted to show you the collars that I bought from the ladies in Portales on Friday....
This old silverware is a pattern called Flirtation.....the bag was marked $10,  but she let me have them for $7.50.   I was also lucky enough to find a case to hold my new silverware.....    .50     ...
I bought this vintage typewriter at the auction.   It's in pretty rough shape,  but it has glass keys that would be wonderful for jewelry (should I decide to part it out...not likely)
This box of pictures came from the auction....they will be headed down to my booth.

I hadn't even ever seen a vintage wheelchair before.....but I found one at a yard sale a few months ago....and this one was at the auction Saturday.    I loved the big metal springs and wheels.   That's real leather on the seat and back....no faux pleather back in those days!   The chair is tagged "new wheel chair #2"  (bottom right photo)   The tag on the back of the chair says "Gendron Wheel Company"      Gendron  was a company founded in 1880 and was the originator of the wire wheel.   They manufactured tricycles, bicycles, baby buggys, playground equip,,,,,etc.

Here's the wooden one that I found earlier in the summer.....

The wheelchair on the left with the metal frame  is actually newer than the one on the right with the wood frame.   I plan to put these on the front porch for H and I to sit in ...lol.....
I thought I would end the post with a few more photo's of the old windmills.....
I always enjoy your visits....thanks for stopping by....come back soon!

  1. Loved seeing all the windmills. Am so glad someone has put them in a place for safe keeping. The wheelchairs are very interesting. Am glad that you are keeping them. I spent a year or so in Mountainaire, NM and it was such a culture shock for me. It is nice to know some of the places that you talk about. Thanks for sharing.

  7. You found some great things, Penny. I learned to type on an old Underwood typewriter like that. lol And that picture with the divided images is like one i had. They were sold at a home party and I think I got it in 1978. I hung it for a few years when I was in "country" decorating mode and then hung it for a few years on a porch for Fall decorating. Memories!!! xoDiana

  9. Like Nana diana, I got my picture when I was into country decorating back in the seventies. It was very popular. I haven't seen on in awhile now. Orange and avacado green were the colors to have back then..ruffled lamp shades..maple furniture. The old wheel chair are interesting. Wonder if we will start seeing those old Bendwood rockers again. Like Diana, same there too. Learned to type on one like that back in high school...WAY back.
Nice finds, Penny! LOVE those lace collars!!

  11. OMG! That framed print you showed is exactly like one my parents had back in the 70's!! They sold it at a garage sale in the 80's.

  19. Those chairs are so strange and uncomfortable looking! Funny how the small wheels are in the back, I guess they were meant for others to push not the person to push themselves?

  21. The windmills remind me of the one that stood on my grandparents home in Acton CA.
And the photo reminds me of a place roadside that sells pieces like this.
