Tea, Toast, and Treasures

I found lots of wonderful treasures at the auctions Saturday....some for my booth....and some for me!    I know it's a long time til Valentines Day,  but I just have to go thru the box of vintage cards that I got the bid on before I pack them away til February.

As I look thru my box of  treasures,  I'm going to enjoy a cup of tea in this gorgeous three piece Zehendner & Co Barvarian dessert set that I got at the auction.
Most of the vintage cards are 3D pop up/fold down....some are quite large and some are small.....
Almost all of them were addressed to Eileen and are from the 1930's.
How much was a beautiful card for your special Valentine in the 30's.....
15 cents for a large one!
I'm not sure,  but I would guess the average hourly wage in 1930 was about 15 cents.   I know the minimum wage law was enacted in 1938 and was 25 cents an hour.
I don't have a favorite card yet,  but this big honeycomb basket is in the top three....
I love the way the basket has honeycomb all the way so the card can stand alone.    It has three honeycomb hearts on each side of the basket .....but,  everything folds down flat for easy storing.    There were two of these baskets in my box.
How much was my box......$17.50.....what a deal!   6 large cards,   5 medium,    and 9 small.
All of the cards were in good shape considering their age....if the tab to hold the honeycomb or any part of the card is missing,   I just use a small paper clip to hold it together.    I don't like to use glue or tape because  I want the card to be in as original shape as it can be.

This card is so pretty and I love what was written on the back....
Sweet little poems are hand written on the back of the card to his Valentine!

The third photo shows the "printed in Germany" stamp that is on some of the cards..
Even though this is a dessert set,   I am having tea and toast this morning so I am calling it a breakfast set....lol!      I love to use pretty serving pieces to serve simple food,   don't you?

  9. Penny,
LOVE the 3 piece Tea set!! Stunning!!

And what a buy for those vintage Valentines!! They are very hard to come by around here because of many items like those being destroyed by flooding in past years. A lot of the vintage and antique pieces in older homes were destroyed.
They are all so pretty!! You are so lucky to have found them!!

    Hugs,
    Debbie
