Custom Made Kitchen Buffet

We seldom used the table and chairs that were in the kitchen,   so I thought that space could be put to a better use with a buffet to store dishes, glasses, and misc kitchen stuff.    I looked everywhere for a vintage buffet to fit the space and had the storage that I wanted....no luck.    So,  I asked H if he thought he could custom make me one and of course he said yes....gotta love that guy!

Here is what we came up with....

I am purposely not showing the very top of the buffet because I am still working on that,  but here is the storage areas that are  below.       I wanted the first shelf to hold glasses so he measured my tallest glasses and made the shelf especially for them.

The second shelf is for plates and misc.

I had some hand painted drawers that I bought at the auction for $4 each and those went on the floor.   I have all my blue and white dishes packed in the center one and the other two are holding misc for now.    You can barely see a small drawer on the right side....under the Hoosier....that drawer is empty but I 'm sure I'll find something to fill it with.

Here are photos of the progress along the way....

I chose to line the shelves with fabric instead of shelf liner.   We just wrapped the shelves like a Christmas package with fabric and stapled it to the board in a few places.   The fabric came from Walmart and is one of my favorites   in fact,  I bought enough to make a gathered skirt for the buffet later....maybe....

This is what the area looked like before with a table.
I also changed the dishes out in the shelf that is hung above the table.   I have had ironstone pitchers on it for quite a while and I was ready for a change.

Here is how the shelf looks now .
H put  cup hooks on the bottom of the shelf for tea cups and he also put a trim board across the front.   I have had a couple of things fall off  of that shelf and break.....like when I am hammering on the wall to hang something....lol!

I am working on the top part of the buffet and will be back to show you the progress soon!

  7. It is such a great idea. It will look nice when you make the skirt with the fabric. Are the stenciled drawers on rollers or wheels to make it easier to move them?
