| We painted our dark wood kitchen cabinets....years....and years ago |

| We painted the outside .....not the inside! So as long as the doors were shut, the kitchen looked all light and bright, but open one of those doors and it was a different story! |

| While we had everything out of the cabinets, I laid new shelf paper. What do they do with those blue quart jars you ask.... drink sweet tea out of them in the summer of course! My "everyday" glasses that we use all the time are on this shelf too. I like to use Dollar Tree clear glasses for everyday so when they get broke.....and they do....it's no big deal. I'm also bad about leaving them outside....at the auction....just about everywhere...so they disappear pretty quick.....lol! |

| I added some "pocket doilies" to the doors to hold small pot holders. I just stapled the doily to the door in a pocket shape and inserted a pot holder in the "envelope". |

| You may remember seeing my pink coffee pot on the coffee bar last week....well, funny story..... H didn't like it so far away from the water. So, I moved it over by the sink where the water would be more handy for him....can't mess with a man and his coffee! |

| The fabric covers that you see on the doors were an easy project. I just measured the size I needed for each door. I found the cartons that hold 12 cans of sodas to work the best to use as the form for the fabric.....it's a thin cardboard that is easily stapled to the cabinet doors. I sprayed each cardboard form with 3M spray glue and carefully pressed the fabric to the form, pressing out any wrinkles with my hand. ( I cut the fabric larger than the form so I could wrap it around the back.) |

Penny I love the fabric idea, can they be changed out for seasons? This is quite the project, but perfect for the Winter months.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric is just adorable! I wish I had seen your idea before we got new cabinets, I was up to trying anything. Unfortunately ours are too new to try this now (but I will keep it in mind for the years to come!). And the pockets for the potholders? Just precious! I would leave my cupboard doors open all the time! Just gorgeous!!!!

Love the fabric on the inside of the doors...sooo darn cute! This is right up our mom's alley....only there would be a LOT of ruffles on the inside as well lol! We are going to pin this for sure....oh so creative Miss Penny!!

ReplyDeleteVery sweet, Penny! I papered the back of my shelves and had I known about this I would have done it. But for a change I will use your idea, you BET I will! :) When we redid our cupboards and painted them from blond to white, we had the doors taken off and the center panel cut out and replaced with clear glass so my dishes would show. The glass was put in place with clips so I could just take out the glass panels and wash them..or whatever. This is such a neat and inexpensive way to spruce it up. I LOVE the pink coffeemaker. Mine is deep red. I love that we can get them in colors now! Do you have a colored toaster? I use mine so much it has to be out on the counter.

P.S. I had a chance to buy an entire bolt of that very material at a garage sale for $15!!! I passed it up! I hate myself!!

ReplyDeleteThe inside of your cabinets before you painted them looks the same as our cabinets. We also did not paint the inside because of lack of time. I think this will be a great project for Joe to do once he retires in 2 years. It will help in keeping him busy.....
