How to Make a China Tea Cup Wreath

When H built the greenhouse last summer,  we no longer had a need for the potting shed that we already had.     Kyleigh and I thought it would be fun to turn the old potting shed into a tea room for us.   H has been working on that project and is almost finished,  so it is about time for me to do my part of the makeover....decorate the inside!

I made a tea cup wreath this morning to hang in our new tea room.       I have made several of these wreaths over the years and sold them.....now I only make them for myself.     Since I no longer sell them,   I wanted to share how I make them with my blogging friends.

I use about a 14" grape vine wreath for the base.    Your wreath will need a study hanger because it can get pretty heavy with all the tea cups and saucers on it ,   so be sure to use a heavy gauge wire to hang it.    I use what I call "baling wire"

I use odds and ends tea cups and saucers that I can easily replace if one should get broken.    I lay about 5-6 cups and saucers  on the counter and play with how I can arrange them on the wreath.
When I am happy with the arrangement,   I attach them to the wreath.

I use plate hangers to attach the saucers to the wreath,  and have always been happy with that method.

I use a heavy gauge of floral wire to attach the cups to the wreath.     I attach the cups in several positions to add interest to the design of the wreath.    I sometimes glue cups to the saucers using E6000  glue.

After I get all the cups and saucers on the wreath,  I begin to stick  floral stems into the grapevine wreath as you can see in the first photo.   I keep my glue gun handy to add a strip of hot glue to the stem before I insert it into the wreath.

 In the second photo you can see how I added some gold leaves and filler to the outside of the wreath.   

Then I added a few pieces of fern......

It's all about the details....lol!    I added birds,  nests,  tea spoons,  pieces of battenburg lace napkins  ( I get soiled ones cheap at yard sales and cut them into pieces to tuck in around the wreath)

The vintage sugar spoon is just stuck into the grapevine wreath just in case I ever want to take it out.   

The other spoons were attached with E6000 to the saucer.....

The tea cup in this photo (where my logo is) was also glued to the saucer with E 6000.
  Kyleigh cut some small twigs of ornamental pear blooms from the trees in the front yard and  made a little bouquet in the sugar bowl next to the bunny.

I also hung a tea strainer from one of the saucer holes.....you can see a close up of that in the first photo of my post.

 I am sure there are other ways to make a china tea cup wreath,  but this is the way that I do it!    They are lots of fun to make and make a beautiful accessory in the dining room or anywhere else in your home.    I don't recommend hanging them on the front door as they are breakable.
