No Place Like Home for the Holidays

I had this section of the kitchen counter about half done before H went into the hospital for surgery.    I had a chance to finish it up this afternoon while he was resting and thought I would share it with you all!

My theme for our Christmas kitchen is Home for the Holidays and I am decorating with the yard sale ceramic houses that I bought over the summer.

They were all what I call Ugly Houses that you normally would pass by at a yard sale,   but with a little paint and trim they have turned into beautiful swans

I set one of my houses on a milk glass cake plate and for the other one,  I used a pretty cardboard lidded box.

If you look close,   my Santa has a tea pot in his hand.....

Here's a close up of the make over that this house got....

And a side view too....

I used a stack of pretty lidded boxes in the corner of the counter as a back drop to my vignette......

I decorated each of the houses with similar trim to give them a unified look.....

I have accumulated quite a few trees at after Christmas sales and I dressed them up by planting them in pretty ceramic containers.

I've had my hand painted Home Sweet Home sign for a long time and it was a perfect addition to my  Home for the Holidays themed kitchen .

I didn't like the way my sign looked just sitting on the counter,   so I put a spray of faux greenery under it to lift it up a little.

The white tree on the right side is planted in a tea pot.   I bought 4 of these in the 90% off isle at Hobby Lobby last year after Christmas.

I wanted to share the crystal spoon holder that my daughter gave me last week.   I mentioned to her that my spoon holder had got broken and I hadn't found one I liked to replace it yet.   She said that she had two pretty ones at home  that belonged to my Grandmother.....would I like one.

I am so proud of it....thank you Melissa!

I still have a couple of counters left in the kitchen  to decorate for Christmas .....

But I won't put anything on the big island in the center of the kitchen....it gets a real work out around the holidays.

These houses have been so much fun to do,    I can't wait to show you more as I get their make over completed.

If you haven't already seen the other end of the counter,   here's a link to that post.....http://penny-pennystreasures.blogspot.com/2016/11/home-for-holidays-kitchen.html

  1. Wow, Penny, you have outdone yourself. Each house is more terrific than the last. I don't think I will ever want to pass up one of those 'cheap' houses again, Grins, Sandi
