Decluttering the Linen Closet

When we moved here over 10 years ago,    the linen closet in the hallway was a dark wood and had doors on it.     H took the doors off , painted it white,   and added lighting.

I had H add the lighting so I could use it as a display cabinet for my collection of milk glass.    There is a big linen closet in the utility room,   so I really didn't need another one.

When I started doing tablescapes,    my linen cabinet in the utility room got fuller and fuller.    Eventually I moved the milk glass to the display cabinet in the family room and started using this one for tablecloths,   place mats,  napkins,   napkin rings......etc.

When I took this picture at Christmas I couldn't even turn the lights on in the cabinet because it was so full that the linens were right up against the lighting!

Now for a little tour around my decluttered linen cabinet.......well,  maybe still cluttered to some,   but it's as decluttered as I get!

I organized the drawers.......

I also organized the bins under the cabinet......

I have 3 boxes of linens that I seldom.....to never......use ready to take to the auction.     I don't do yard sales   ( I love to go to them)   but I will donate stuff or take it to the auction.

I didn't make a New Years resolution,   but I said that I was really going to try to declutter and I have!

I always enjoy your visits so much ,     please come back soon!

  2. Linens! Linens are my weakness, I have so many and yet I refuse to park with a one of them. I have loaned them out for parties, they get used for a B.B.Q. I have yet to have one ruined beyond repair. And recently on Pinterest I have seen wall hangings made out of old one, a hodge-podge of a chair cover made with them.I only wish I had a huge area to keep them stored more neatly.

  3. Good morning Penny, Well, you hit my weakness with your real linens and crocheted items.
I feel I have to rescue every linen table cloth, napkin, and doilies that I come across for sale. The real linen is expressive of true elegance of days gone by. I love love beautiful linens. I like your napkin rings too especially the teacups.
You gave me a great idea for an old china cabinet. I will be on the lookout for the largest one I can find and when I get it home, it will be painted white or a robin egg blue. You are one the most creative people I have ever come in contact with.
    Thank you for sharing.

  4. Penny,
Your linen cabinet is absolutely gorgeous and creative. It looks like it would be so much fun to have a cabinet dedicated to linens like you have. The gorgeous window panels are such a lovely touch.

  6. oooh, oooh, oooh.....nummy. I don't have all my linens visible...I'm afraid I would have a stash like yours---if I saw it all in one space. I am a sucker for old lace and anything handmade...I have to start redoing some for projects or be buried. Gorgeous collections!

  7. Penny,
What a marvelous idea to have taken the doors off and add lighting especially when you have so many lovely linens....what a beautiful display as always...I too vowed to declutter and have made a better good dent in it all...I have now progressed to a cane after my surgery....
    Hugs,
    Debbie
