Farmhouse Corner Unit from Old Doors

There is a good sized area on the side of the refrigerator that I change the decor out for holidays and seasons.   It is the busiest intersection in the house and I try to keep it fresh.

I had a tree there for Christmas and when I took it down a few weeks ago ,   this corner has been empty.    I have been keeping an eye out at the stores for a corner unit to put there and hadn't had any luck,   so I decided that I would design one and see of H would make it for me.     At first I thought something using corrugated metal is what I wanted,   then I remembered a couple of old doors that I had stashed in the garage.

They had been stored there since I closed my booth at a local antique mall about 5 years ago.  When H dug them out,   I fell in love all over again with them ....lol!    He had to make them shorter to fit in the space ,  but other than that all he had to do was screw them together and add shelves.

After H had it all assembled and in place,  it was my turn to have fun decorating it.

I decided to add an architectural piece to the front of the top shelf.    Then,  I created a Farmhouse vignette.

As I mentioned earlier,  this is a busy intersection......you can enter the kitchen,   turn left and go into the family room or make a right and go into the entry or down the hall to the bedrooms,  baths,  and utility room.

The second shelf is my favorite .....you can see the old weathered wood and the vintage hardware.   The door on the left has been painted several times over the years,   you can see pink paint,  white paint,  and even the original brown stain if you look close.

The third shelf has a sweet pig in rain boots and a metal house that has a light inside it  that I use sometimes as a night light.   I am on the look out for a vintage door knob to put in the hole where there used to be one on the right side door.

I have my mixer stored on the forth floor shelf....lol!      I added architectural pieces to the vignettes on the third and forth shelves.

Before.........After

Here are just a few of the many changes this corner has seen over the years......

I always enjoy your visits so much,   please come back again soon!

  2. Of all the decorating treatments you have done in this corner, I must admit this one is my favorite by far! I LOVE how you just arrange things so they have a cohesive look! I don't know how many times I have ran to Hobby Lobby or Michaels to get decorations I see in your vignettes so I can create a similar look for my home. You are my decorating hero and my farmshouse decor queen!

  3. I love, love, love it, Penny! The chippy doors, the architectural piece on the top shelf and then the white cow that I am crazy about! The whole thing is just inspired. I want one! And how lucky you are to have a handy, creative husband to bring your visions to life! I think it must be so much fun to look at those shelves every time you pass by.j
