H and I went to one of the best auctions on Saturday! We stayed the whole day (10:30 to 4:30) Boy, were we tired when we got home, but it was soooo worth it! I got this beautiful McCoy bird dish... |
and some vintage pillow cases for $5. The auctioneer "bundled" a lot of boxes together, so I also had to buy 2 other boxes of junk to get this one! But, it was still only $5 for all three boxes! |
This old photo box was my buy of the day! I paid $5 for 2 boxes....one was full of scented candles (junk) and one was full of old books and this gorgeous photo album. It is covered with velvet... |
and has a stand with a drawer for extra pictures. |
The pages are thick and the hardware is very ornate. |
It is full of old photos... |
lots of babies... |
The stuff in the auction belonged to a lady that had an antique shop. Some of the items still had her tag on them...she had $82.50 on this album!!! |
Does anyone know why so many pictures had the man sitting and the wife standing? |
Again, the man sitting? |
Some of the pages hold 5 X 7's and some hold 2 smaller pictures. |
I bought this stained glass lamp shade for $12.50, but they bundled a junk DESK and a large shelf that I had to buy with it! Goodwill is going to be seeing alot of me this week! |
This set of Norman Rockwell dishes was $3. There are 8 different plates and 9 coffee cups... |
They have a description of the scene on the back of them... |
Most of them are from the 80's. |

Some great finds with the GW stuff-that was a long day so I'm glad you found some treasures.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a photo album with the cradle and drawer in all my years collecting, usually its just the album, good find.
ReplyDeleteI like the old pictures,
I loved going to auctions and I was like you I gave a lot of extra stuff away, or put it in my free box at my yard sales
You always discover treasures. The pillow cases are fantastic and the photo album is gorgeous.

Penny,
ReplyDeleteThe album is a such a treasure. I beleive that the man always sat because he was the head of the household and was the most important member and also because of the hopped slips and skirts, it was easier and looked better for the women to stand.....
The stained glass shade is to die for.
I chuckled when I saw the Norman Rockwell plates and cups. I had all of them at one time as a local Department store gave them out for so many trips during the week to the store. Yes, I donated them to our church flea market!!
The piece of McCoy is beautiful as are the pillow cases!!
What a great haul!!
Hugs,
Deb
You had a wonderful day! I love the album! I'm partial to old photos. Love all your aqua, too. Great finds.

Dru
I came over to see the bird dish and linens, but I am drooling over that photo album. Such a steal! I collect old photos especially babies and children. I agree with Debbie above about the women standing because of their dresses. Can't wait to see the carpenter's box.
ReplyDeleteWow, that photo album is something else. They always intrigue me. Looks like you got some major bargains. What fun!
ReplyDeleteLiz
Such a fascinating photo album, Penny. What will you do with the photos? Nice job with all your auction treasures. Susan
ReplyDeleteWow, what bargains you got! I just love that photo album and the stand for it.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing better than a good auction. I need to look and see if any of my auction houses are holding sales this weekend! Great finds Penny!
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping by from Katherines' Corner Blog Hop; can't wait to read more of your posts! Those pillowcases are amazing! What great bargains. My parents buy a lot of things at auctions. She got some pillowcases we are actually going to turn into dresses for our twins.
ReplyDeleteDoes is ever make you wonder how people give up those old photos of their family? I would always be sure to pass them on to younger member that wanted them. Anyway, what a treasure you found just in that album, very different. I'm particularly envious of the bird bowl McCOY. I love that stuff. Can hardly wait to see what else you got. Never been to an auction but seeing what you got inspires me to see if I can find one to go to. Happy days.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to an auction either and now want to go. I am wondering if there are any names on the back of the old photos. Love the aqua McCoy and pillowcases and stained glass lamp. Can't wait to see what other bargains you brought home.
ReplyDeleteYou may have been tired, but it was worth in it in my opinion. You got some great vintage goodies.
ReplyDeleteI always thought the photographer had the men sit because of the height difference. It balances the picture better. What great finds, good work snapping them up.
ReplyDeleteWonderful goodies! Enjoy and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWOW Penny, your treasures are fabulous. Love the album. Auctions are so much fun. I have been to a few and it is exciting.
ReplyDeleteGreat aqua treasure!
Hugs, CM
I LOVE the album! In a way it's sad that the original family doesn't have it! It makes you wonder, did the line die out or maybe they just didn't care. Oh well, I'm glad they've found a good home!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful auction my fav? The McCoy planter with the bird love it! Also the old photo album is so neat and I have know idea why the man always sat and the woman stood, hope someone knows:)
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! Those vintage linens are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the rest of your treasures!

ReplyDeleteOh how fun! Nothing like a good auction with great deals! Around here it is hard to get a good deal because of all the dealers at all the auctions! I like your velvet album, I have a few myself. All of those photos make it quite a treasure! Have a great weekend! Gina
ReplyDeleteWe used to go to an auction every Sunday. But the guy just quit doing it. So sad. There were so many good things to find. You seem to have made the haul of the day! Congrats on the great photo album. That is a true treasure. xo marlis
ReplyDeletePenny, what a fun day. I have never been to an auction. Would love to sometime. That photo album is amazing and I love the bird dish. I too wonder why the man sat and the woman stood. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
