Swan Soup Tureen

One of my favorite foods to serve during the winter months is a big bowl of hearty soup.   I try to make all our meals as romantic as possible, but that is kind of hard to do with soup....but I'll give it a try!
Soup is great to serve right from the crock pot...but it does add a little elegance to serve it from a beautiful soup tureen.  I only have two soup tureens...so this swan tureen was an easy choice!
What to do with the ladle as you serve the soup, can't lay it on the table...lol .......I like to lay it in a large china "meat server" that matches the dishes at the place settings.
I chose these dishes because the soup bowl is pretty large....I also like to use large "serving" spoons to eat my soup.
The napkin holders are rhinestone crowns, I used battenburg place mats, and vintage silverware.   I love the look of old silver .....
The water glasses are very old and have a great fatina....the pink color is almost completely worn off...
We are having a crusty bread with our soup, so I have included a bread plate at each place setting.   I also thought it would be fun to use vintage butter knife to spread the butter.  When not in use, it will rest on a crystal holder.  I used a heart crocheted piece to rest the knife on...adding a little more romance!
Vintage salt and pepper shakers....

After dinner, we will have some coffee and a little dessert!

If you look closely in the upper left corner of the above photo, you can see piles of wood from our huge apple tree that died.(sad face)   H has it completely cut down and will deliver the wood to our daughter later this week (she will burn it in her fireplace)     On a positive note, we are planning to build a green house where our apple tree was.

Several of you have asked where I purchase the realistic looking flowers that I use in a lot of my floral designs.   I purchase them lots of different places but, these gorgeous silk roses were bought at Michaels a few days ago....spring collection...$6.99 each, but they were 50% off.

H and I will have a romantic lunch ....hearty soup & bread/butter...yummy!   You ask "what are the big plates for?"  I am using them like chargers to hold the soup bowl....plus they make the table look good....lol!

Amore......

  1. I have a tureen like yours! Mine is white only, but I don't have a soup spoon to match. How lovely! I look at your posts all the time, but don't comment as often as I should (which is every single time!) You are so creative and talented!

I use it in Fall to decorate with..They really are beautiful on a table though, aren't they? I like the way you have displayed your crocheted doilies. Just so sweet! Because of you, I am digging more and more of my doilies out and displaying them. YOU are so good at inspiring me!! I am delighted! Not everyone can do what you do, you know! It's called talent!! :)
