Week End Treasure Hunt and Crack Slaw

It was too cold here in Eastern New Mexico to go to any yard sales....it was freezing!   What's with this 75 one day and 32 the next!    We did go to an inside auction Saturday though and came home with some real treasures and a few that were a little trashy!

H bought the vintage yellow step stool....it's pretty rough  but wait til he works his magic on it!   I'm putting in a request for a new pink paint job right now......a steal at $3     I bought the wicker plant stand with a steel liner.   I actually bought 2 of them...one was $10 and one was $7.50.   A fresh coat of white paint and they will look good as new.

You know H collects mixers and he couldn't pass this one up for $3.   It is just like new,   the cord doesn't even look like it's ever been used.

This little beauty cost $5,  but there was a catch.    H had to take a bundle of 5 boxes for $5 to get it.

3 of the boxes are headed to the Light House.   Here is what we kept     I really did like these Gourmet Magazines from 1967 and 1968.

Some of the recipes are pretty good too.

I still need to share the wicker rocker,  the quilt rack,  and the kids stool.

 I get asked all the time if we ever cook in the kitchen,   yes,   we eat at home most of the time   While I was photographing the treasures,  H was busy making crack slaw for a late lunch.    

You can Google crack slaw and you will find a recipe that is sure to please your family.      The main ingredients are cabbage,  onion,  garlic, and your choice of meat.

The most important ingredient in my opinion is the Sesame Oil,  you gotta have that.

H likes beef,   I like chicken ....so,  he's fixing a skillet of each.    We've also made it with  pork and shrimp ...delish    That's the fun thing about this meal,   you can put whatever you want in it.    We like to add walnuts, mushrooms,  sugar peas,   carrots,  peas,  asparagus,,,,whatever we feel like or happen to have on hand.

We like lots of onion and garlic,  so I put in more than most of the recipes that I've seen.

Water chestnuts are really good in it too   I'ts great left over and I love it wrapped in lettuce.

Easy clean up too......two skillets and two chopping boards,    Does it get any easier than that?
