Red White and Blue Wall Flag

A large Patriotic flag painted on the side of a barn has always been one of my favorite yard decorations.    But how could I create something like that in my back yard......no barn.......and not enough skill to paint a big flag on a wall....lol!

So,  I created the same effect but in a different way!

Before I share my secret of  how I created a big red white and blue wall flag,    I wanted to show you how I added some much needed decor to the Tuff shed that holds all my fall decor and other misc. stuff.

I couldn't find a good before pic,  so the one on the left will have to do.     As you can see,   I had window boxes and two wheel barrows.      The photo on the right shows my progress so far in giving this area a mini makeover.

The new look......

I added outside curtains and replaced the pink geraniums with yellow sunflowers,  marigolds,  lavender,  and white geraniums.

H screwed a section of bed springs to the top of the door.     I can hang anything I want from the springs without having to put more holes in the door.    I didn't have time today to make a proper wreath for the door,  but I will get one done soon.

I covered the chair cushions with the same fabric I used for my outdoor curtains.    I used one of my $1 yard sale sheets,   so I have plenty of material to spread around.

I will look for some outdoor Patriotic pillows to put in the chairs,   but for now I have my Walmart dragonfly  pillows that I bought the other day for $2.50 each on clearance.

One more thing before I get to the flag......

H bought two identical bikes at a yard sale last Saturday......

They had been $20 but it was the end of the day and everything was half price....can't beat $10 for a bike.    Ky took one of them to ride over at her house and she can ride this one when she is here.

Now for the details on the flag.......

It is a shower curtain that I found on Amazon for less than $20!     It should weather well and hopefully not fade too bad over the years.

The area I wanted to cover was bigger than my flag,   so I layered a queen sheet behind it to make up the difference in size.     What am I hiding behind that sheet/flag you ask!

This used to be a vegetable garden,  but we haven't planted one in several years.    SO,    this area has now become a "catch all"

The bed that used be full of squash now is full of Morning Glories.   a big piece of bed spring  and a half of a rusted 55  gallon barrel.       The "side table"  is a wheel barrow topped with a rusted pedal car.

One corner holds some extra flower pots that are not in use right now and if you look close,   up against the fence is a baby bed spring. that I was using as a trellis.

Another wheel barrel filled with two mail boxes and a big musical instrument.    In the back ground you can see a couple of chairs that are in need of repair.

I need to do a video so you can see how pretty the flag looks when the wind catches it!

  3. Penny!! Love what you did with the shed!! So cute!! It still amazes me that you can use all that fabric outside. With the amount of rain that we have gotten over the past few weeks, I would have mold and mildew growing on those fabrics!! Hopefully, all the rain has now tapered off and we will be getting some Sun.

  7. What a great idea to use a shower curtain, but who would have thought that they made a flag shower curtain! You've done a great job of adding some fun charm to the Tuff shed!

  11. What a great find! I love flags painted on barns too. At our old farmstead we had a perfect out building to do it on but it just wasn't in good enough shape to do it on... Now I'm thinking the side of our corn crib would be a good spot for one... Stopping by from the Celebrate 365 Blog Party!
