Grocery Cart Planter

H has been working on his vegetable garden the last couple of days!  We lined this old grocery cart with some burlap potato bags, filled it with potting soil and planted some flowers.....wait, I thought this was a vegetable garden!  Well, you had to know if I had a hand in it, there would be some flowers!  I thought the marigolds would help with the bug population....and I like the smell of lavender when I am in the garden.

The grocery cart sits in a raised bed on the north side of his garden.  He used old railroad ties to build the beds up. H's garden is full of old rusty things, just the way he likes it!  There are a couple of old rusty bed springs laid up against the wall for the Honeysuckle to grow on.    Sometimes H plants climbing green beans to grow on them, but I don't think he is this year.

I added some little gnomes to the planter...

He has his tomato plants in the ground...

the old sign says Positively No Smoking!  None of us are smokers but I thought the signs was cute!

The bell peppers have been planted...

This old tractor sprinkler belonged to my dad and is over 50 years old...

I bought this shovel bird feeder at Roundtop Tx a couple of years ago....it is welded to a long piece of rebar that you shove in the ground so the shovel stands up.    I've hung an old wind chime from the handle...

another little gnome....

His garden has a wrought iron fence around it...keeps the dogs out!  We don't have a dog, but we babysit our grand dog, Bella  (she is a little Sheltie) quite a bit!  Do you see the black iron bed in the bottom left corner?  Yes, H has a "bed" in his garden too...I think he is going to plant squash in it.  I'll show you when he's done!  Til next time.....

  16. What a sweet looking planter and garden you have Penny! When I saw your thumbnail over at Brenda's I had to click over and get the details. I recently turned a bassinet into a planter and this reminded me of that project.

I love the details in your space and the rusty look of the cart. So, so pretty!

  27. So funny, I just lined a hanging basket with burlap because I couldn't find a coconut liner that fit. Have you used it before? How does it hold up?

    1. I haven't used burlap before as a liner, but I noticed that the garden nursery was using burlap to line their hanging plant baskets...so, I thought I would try it!
