Flower Arranging 101

I have a little tip for flower arranging that I want to share with you today.   I bought these beautiful roses at the grocery store this morning....Albertson's $6.99 a dozen.
It makes me happy to walk into the kitchen and have a fresh bouquet to look at while I do my cooking.

You won't need a bunch of supplies....vase, tape, scissors, and bundle of flowers.  (I love the new thornless roses that are available now)

First, fill your vase about 3/4 full of water and add the packet that should come with your flowers to make them stay fresh longer.
Then, make rows across the top of the vase with your tape.   I like to put them in about 1" squares.

Hold your rose up to the vase to decide how tall you want your arrangement to be...I like mine to be a least the height of the vase.

Cut your desired length from the flower in a diagonal....it can take in water better with  the larger surface that a diagonal cut makes.

Fill each little square with a flower...see how they will stand up in the squares instead of falling over?

You can easily move single flowers around to  "balance" your bouquet if you need to.

I will leave the roses in this vase for a few days....then I will make a fresh cut and put them in a shorter vase.  This new cut will  allow them to last a few extra days.

When I put them in a shorter vase, I usually move them to the coffee table in the family room.
Take time to stop and smell the roses.....enjoy life!
