Sunflowers Steal the Show in Late Summer Mantel Decor

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers to use when I am creating a late summer floral design.

When sunflowers first made an appearance in the stores a few weeks ago,    my mind started working on idea's to use some of the ones I have stashed in a tote in the studio to create a floral design.

I finally got a chance to get in the studio this morning and dig them out.     I used them last year in the entry......the year before in the family room.......so,   I decided to put them in the master bedroom this year.

Before.......................................................................................After

I've had a love affair with sunflowers for years!      The pink ones are just a couple of years old,   but the pale yellow ones I've had for more than 10 years.

In addition to filling the white enamel Farmers Market "vases" with sunflowers ,     I sat a big metal sheep on the mantel.

I also scattered a few tobacco baskets around ...... all of them are new purchases from Hobby Lobby that I found in the 90% off isle.

I found this one lone white sunflower in the tote.     I was sure that I had a few more,   but they were no where to be found.

I stuck a spray of fruit in one of my designs.

I tucked a bundle of wheat and a faded sunflower in one of the designs.

For more texture and color,    I have some deep rose hydrangea's in all three of my designs.     I scattered yellow roses in all of them too.        I hadn't ever seen green sunflowers before,   so when I spotted them at Hobby Lobby the other day I couldn't resist picking up 4 of them.

I took down the picture I had on this side of the fireplace and replaced it with this sweet cow canvass.

I changed out the picture on the other side too

I have a metal sheep,   a cow,   and a goat in my fireplace vignette.

Since I added some yellow to the room in my floral designs,    I wanted to put a few more touches of yellow around the room.

I replaced the pink roses in the silver tea pot with a bunch of yellow ones

Then,   I put a yellow pillow in one of the chairs I have on each side of the fireplace.  I want to share a story about the pillow      My oldest grand daughter is almost 30 now and the lace on this pillow came from a dress she had when she was about 5.    I removed the collar from her dress and sewed it onto this pillow so I could see it every day.     It's always out somewhere in the house......you last saw it in the sunroom....and before that, in the guest bedroom.

August is the late summer month.........September is the first fall month.
I have started decorating the house for fall.....just in my head though!      Have you given any thought yet how  you will add some fall touches to your home?

  1. Penny that cow canvass is darling! I've actually been thinking about fall decor but I haven't locked it down yet. Hopefully soon, because the holidays will be here before you know it.

  9. Penny,
Once again, I am playing catch up. Last week was my 4 work day week and it really seems to do me in anymore...
Love all the lovely colored flowers!! So pretty!! Yes. I am thinking of Fall decorating but it will need to get a lot cooler before I go up in that attic to get everything down. It must be about 120 degrees up there with the heat that we are having.......
