DIY Buffalo Check Umbrella Cover

The umbrella cover that I had on the front porch had seen better days and it was time to replace it.

Of course,    I didn't want just a simple replacement cover.....noooo,  lol! ........I wanted one that had a Farmhouse feel to go with the rest of the decor on the front porch.     After looking on the internet for a black and white check cover,   I decided if I wanted one I would have to make it.

I didn't want to spend a lot of time sewing a custom cover together,   so I came up with the idea of using a large round tablecloth for my cover.    I found a 120" one on Amazon that fit my big umbrella frame perfect.

I don't like to do tutorials,   so I just put together several photo's and a few tips ......

I am really pleased with the way my umbrella cover turned out.....

H put away the two pink tricycles that I had on each side of the porch posts and brought out the old rusty wagons to put in their place.    My plan is to put some pumpkins in them for fall.....or I might change my mind and so something else!

I always enjoy your visits so much,    please come back again soon!

  2. Good morning Penny, I love the buffalo check umbrella cover. How cleaver you are to use a round table cloth. Here's a suggestion: Use any fabric of your choice, use the round table cloth pattern that's free at any fabric store or just fold the fabric in half so it makes a square(need to same length as width),fold again, lay fabric on a table, then take a long string and tie a pencil to one end and a large straight pin like an old hat pin place straight into the point of the folds to hold the string, draw a curve on the widest part of the 4 folds. It should be like using a compass to draw a circle. Then cut all 4 layers at same time carefully. You should have a nice round circle of fabric. You can mark the point before opening your circle so you have a place for the center hole for the umbrella cover. You can even use a a bed sheet and do the same folding and marking. This a fun project to do lots of fun for round tables etc.
Thanks Penny for helping me remember the table cloth project.

I really like the black and white checked fabric!! It really looks pretty!! I am always amazed at how much fabric that you can use outside because you do not get a lot of rain....

  7. One of your other commenters said to use a bed sheet. I love that Idea. I would use a white or pale colored one, and then do flower and feather painting on them. I think it would look so awesome. And the artiste' is you.
