How I make the Most out of a Small Bedroom

How many of you have a small room in your home that serves no other purpose other than to be the "guest bedroom" a few times a year.       Well,   our home is the biggest investment we have ....and I expect every room in our home to "pull their weight" around here....lol!

 

I want our guest bedroom to be cozy and comfy for our guests,   but I also want it to be functional too.

I collect vintage sewing machines and have used them to create a theme for this small bedroom.   I have two non working portable sewing machines that have been converted into lamps    Collectables are pretty to look at,  but sometimes I expect them to be more than just be another pretty face....lol!

I have two full size vintage sewing machines that belonged to my Mother and they both still work!   They serve more than one purpose......since they still work I can actually use them for small repairs AND they serve as end tables on each side of the bed.

The other side of the bed carries on with the Sewing room theme.......

I like to select pieces of furniture that are pretty to look at,    but also have room to use as storage.

This cabinet holds my ever growing collection of quilts and vintage bedding.    Some of my quilts belonged to my mother and grandmother......I also have one that belonged to my great great grandmother.   I guess I should add "Memory Room" to the list of things this room is used for.

I have a comfy chair in the room for reading or just relaxing with a cup of tea.     Most of the furnishings in my Sewing/ Guest / Reading / multipurpose room have sentimental value to me.    The red chair really doesn't matchy match the rest of the room,   but it belonged to my Mother so it's a keeper......  The picture over the chair is of my Grandmother and her older brother when they were children.

Isn't she the cutest little thing with her hair parted down the middle!

Have you guys noticed that this room has a lot of natural wood furniture.    Although I love white painted furniture,   the furniture in this room will probably remain natural since most of it belonged to my mother. 
 The small wooden radio in the corner came from H's home place.....it has been in his family more than 70 years.    The vintage record player that it's sitting on is one of the 2 Victrola's that H has collected over the years.

As I said before,   I try to use furniture that is beautiful as well as being functional.    The drawers in this piece are great for organizing decor that is not in use . 

The rag garland covers several shelves that have our mess of books!    It's really hard for me to keep all my
 books organized so I just keep them hidden ....lol!
