Changes in the Dining Room, a Tablescape, and some Halloween Decor

As you may be able to tell from the post title,    it may be long so you might want to get a cup of coffee and sit down!

H and I have been busy today making changes in the dining room to give it a new look.

The first change was to replace the pink and cream stripped drapes  with some light and airy white ruffled curtains......

Before ............................................After

The dark wood chairs went back to the formal dining room and the white chairs came back in.    I had swapped the chairs out a few weeks ago and decided I preferred the way I had them before.

I also dry brushed a little white paint on the pink shutters to tone them down a bit.     You can see just a little change of color in the before and after photo.

I moved the display piece from the right side of the curtains to the left side.

I also put away all the pink glass that I had displayed on it and replaced them with fall decor.

The next thing was to move the buffet that was under the window across the room.    I replaced it with tiered harp table.

On the top tier of the table I have a bird cage with a skeleton bird and her nest of eggs in it.   The daddy bird is on top of the cage making sure the mama and her egg are safe.

I have matching skeleton candles on each of the lower tiers.

I replaced the display piece that I moved to the other side of the curtains with the dress form that I had stashed in the corner of a guest bedroom.

Poor thing has skeleton spiders crawling all over her......

I put Christmas lights under her skirt to give her a holiday feel.

She has a big pumpkin on the floor by her side that you may remember seeing it before as part of the centerpiece on one of my tablescapes.

I had the table kind of caddycornered in the room and decided I liked it better straight,   so we slid it about 4 feet to the left.

I put a glittery copper colored owl on a pumpkin and placed them in the candleabra on the wall

I also put a different picture in the pass thru......

Now for the tablescape part of my post.

I'm serving chef salad for dinner with crusty bread and butter.    So,   I have a platter for the bread and a small butter dish at each end of the table        I kept the centerpiece easy to take off because I will replace it with a big bowl of salad when it's time to eat.

I have placecards  tucked into a copper holder.....

The place settings are all alike.
Metal copper charger,  the napkin and flatware that I used in last weeks tablescape,   and I'm using small vegetable serving bowls for the salad,     The salad/soup bowls that match these dishes were too small for chef salad,   so I had 4 small veggy serving bowls that I'm using instead.     I have a small plate at each setting to set the buttered bread on.

I would never put these dishes in the oven,   but I guess you could if you wanted to!

This is where I thought about making two posts out of this,  but decided to make one long post so all the moving around that was done made sense.

Nothing in front of the cabinets BEFORE..............buffet in front AFTER

Under the window BEFORE...............in front of the display cabinet  AFTER

The buffet is actually a drop leaf DF,   so if I lift up the side piece I can sit 4-5 people here to eat.    Or leave it down,  and  H and I can have tea there.

H sits here........

and I sit here.

This table arrangement will make it easy to seat 10 or more.....the holidays are fast approaching!     I can put 6-8 adults at the big table and 4-5 kids at the smaller table.!

  5. Hi Penny! I love the way you changed the dining room. The curtains are perfect and so are the white chairs. The crocheted apron on the dress form is so pretty! Did you make it? I need to find a pattern for that. Beautiful! Everything just looks so pretty. Oh my goodness, no, I would never put those dishes in the oven! What were they thinking when they made those? Love all of your ideas, you are precious! xo Regina
