Decorative & Functional Clothes Line

Does anyone else still use a clothes line?

I just love to crawl into a bed at the end of the day that smells like "sunshine"

I take my bedspread off of the bed at night so it never really gets dirty.    Since I don't have to wash it very often,    I like to just hang it on the line to give it a fresh smell.     I sun my pillows too!

I don't just use my clothes line to dry clothes.......I decorate it too!    I mostly just decorate it when I'm having a party in the back yard,    but sometimes I decorate it just for ME!

We normally entertain on holidays,   so red, white and blue is one of my favorite ways to decorate the clothes line.    It's so much fun to watch the little ones run thru the flags.     I remember running thru the clothes that were on the line when I was a kid.....and I got in trouble with my grandma for doing it too!

My clothes line is not very long,    just about the length of a king sheet......

I runs from under the snow ball bush......

and the line ends at the greenhouse.

H added some pretty decorative iron pieces to each of the posts.     You saw the other post with the humming birds on it earlier in the post.

The snow ball bush is in full bloom now.

The left photo shows how the snow ball bush looked about a week ago  and on the right is how it looked today.

It is laying on the fence......

and over into the alley.

H will probably trim it back some after it is thru blooming.

The sun is starting to set so I guess I better gather in the laundry.

I always enjoy your visits so much,    please come back soon!

  1. I have one of those LONG 5 line pull out monsters. Not terribly attractive, but so functional. It's right on the side of the house and gets a breeze all the time. Next nice day---I'm getting all the quilts out on the line---so they can be stored. Your setup is far more appealing, lol.

  3. I too enjoy fresh bed linens from off the clothes line. Mine is one line but quite long and retractible from a cedar tree to my covered outdoor living room. Thanks for this post!

  4. Penny, You do bring back great memories for me. Yes, I love a clothes line. Now some place (mostly HOAs)who have ban them in past are letting people use them because it is "green" energy saving. We were green before they were thought of. I do love, love fresh laundry that has been dried outside. It does smell like fresh air after a rain storm. You bedspread is so pretty too. I see the old washing machine by your clothes line too. All the aprons you hung on a line is so much fun too.
Wow, you do know how to make a guys day brighten up.
    Thanks.

  6. I still remember hanging out the clothes on my mother's line. Our yard is too small to
have a clothes line in it, We used to have one of the folding clothes trees but it was always in the way for everything....Love how you use it to decorate your yard..

  7. My Goodness you have bought back childhood memeories. I loved the timber "T" clothes line so much that I have just bought a old house and I am going to build one myself when I move in. I am not one for a dryer at all (unless I am desperate to dry something quickly). Thanks for the post, I enjoy opening your email and reading it and just loving your house and garden. Keep on Smiling 😊

  12. I have a clothesline and love hanging laundry to dry in the sunshine and breeze. I never thought of using it to decorate, but after seeing your post I think I will have to give it a try!

  13. I have a regular clothes line but the people upstairs park their vehicles under it (!!!) - I used it for drying big things until last year.
