How to Make a Halloween Witch

A bridal gown was my inspiration to make a witch for my Halloween decor.  I came across a  bridal gown when we were in east Texas Labor Day weekend.   It was in pretty bad shape..stains, torn spots, but I thought I could use it for a Halloween witch's dress if I dyed it black.    It was well worth the $3 price tag.

I put the black bridal gown on a dress form and found a head that wasn't too scary....I'm more of a romantic Halloween decorator!

I bought her some hair at the Dollar Store....It took 5 pieces to make her hair full.  (I just hand stitched  them to the edge of her witches hat)

When you are dying synthetic material you never know what you're going to get...lol!   Some of it is a shimmery grey, some is a dark black....all in all I am very pleased with the way it turned out.   I found her some "cute" witches shoes too!

I added a trick or treat banner to the existing fall mantle...found a kind of creepy doll head, replaced some of the pink pumpkins with black sparkly ones.... and the last photo is my new Dr's bag that I found at Canton.    

Here is how the dress looked when I bought it.....

H put it in a big "cauldron"  bucket to dye it.  The gown kept floating to the top so he put a rock and a brick on it to hold it down in the dye.  It took two bottles of Rit dye to get good coverage on such a big piece. 

H hung the gown on a tall tree branch to drip dry.  You can see in the sunlight all the beautiful shades of black that the gown turned when it was dyed.

I put her in front of the fireplace to take the pictures....but this is not where she is going to stay!
