Repurposed Headboard

I think H and I bought this king size headboard about 1980, it's hard to remember back that!    We used it as a headboard for about 20 years and finally bought a new bedroom set.       I loved this old headboard and I couldn't bear to part with we've kept it...all these years!    It was in storage until about 7 years ago....til I came up with the idea of using  it as an ornamental piece in the yard.

Our headboard was originally a walnut color, but I wanted it white, so H gave it a couple of coats of good house trim paint.   It has been out side about seven years and has held up well with a fresh coat of paint every couple of years.

First, it was leaned up against a tree up by the front porch.  When we added on the new front porch, ....

our headboard got moved to the end of the driveway.

Now, H has painted it pink....

moved it to the backyard....

and will use it ....
to dress up our new green house!

I am so won't be much longer til it is finished and I can show you what a wonderful job H has done!

  1. Penny,
Love the ornate details on the bed and such a soft pretty pink color too.Look forward to seeing it by your greenhouse.

  2. It would be such a cool back to a bench.

  3. Pink is a fabulous color...i'm looking forward to see it in your greenhouse!

  4. OH! It's beaufiful! It would look lovely on my patio.. :) But...of course I cannot wait to see how it graces your new greenhouse. What a great guy you must have for him to help you with all of the things you love to do. Mine scowls and does not like my many projects. Pink...such a wonderful shade of pink!!

  5. Now, that is a piece with history! It looks darling in pink. A greenhouse is big news! I'd be thrilled too. What a great way to dress it up! (I know you have a wonderful collection of vintage linens too. Your crocheted sheet sounds gorgeous. I'm sure I would love it!)

  6. Penny,
Love the pink color and looking forward to seeing H.'s finished project!!

  7. Wow, what a great idea for using an old headboard. I have an old twin size headboard and footboard in my basement that I didn't know what to do with it. It could hold up my tall flowers in the garden. Thank you for the wonderful idea!

  8. What a pretty headboard - I don't blame you for holding on to it. It would make a gorgeous garden bench (Pinterest and Hometalk have loads of headboard turned bench inspiration). Your headboard caught my eye over at The DIYers Party.
