Budget Friendly Decorating

Saving money is always on my mind when I am decorating our home and I want to share a couple of my tricks with you.

First....table runners can be pretty expensive...about  $30 and up.   I have a pretty budget friendly table runner on my Easter table in the photo above....

It's a pretty pink scarf that I bought  at an accessory store for $12.99.    Not only can I wear it,  it will do double duty as a home accessory.

The next thing I wanted to show you is the framed black board  on the table in the corner of the dining room....

I've seen these black boards get pretty pricey...

My framed black board is actually a gift bag that I bought for $2.49.   I taped it to the back of my frame or you could staple it as well.    When I get tired of it that way....I can still use it as a pretty bag for a gift.

I know you've all seen these cute ceramic bunnies at yard sales for less than a dollar.    I made a vignette on my Easter table with a couple of bunny baskets....some cute paper napkins....and a ceramic cake that I purchased at a yard sale for a few dollars.
I hope that I have inspired you to have fun decorating your home on a budget !

  1. Hi Penny
I've enjoyed reading your blog for years. Love the colors that you decorate with. It's all beautiful. I wanted to make a comment. When viewing your blog on my IPad everything shifts to the far left and is very small, and hard to make out. I don't understand why this happens. Your blog seems to be the only one this happens too. Has anyone else had this problem that you are aware of? Thanks!

  2. Hi Penny,

Love your decorations and ideas. I love to visit your blog and I of course enjoy leaving comments. Blogger seems to kick my email back so in case you do not get the email telling you that a comment (by me) has been left, I just want you to know I did. Does that make sense? LOL

    Hugs,

    Debbie

  5. I love your style! I have used flannel scarfs for table runners at Christmas time, but never thought of using them in other seasons. Great tip. Maureen......www.redcottagechronicles.com

  9. Hi Penny. I do the same thing..use things for purposed other than what they were intended. One of my favorite things to do. Second hand Rose..that's me! Your scarf makes the perfect sweet table topper. I can never get enough bunnies.

  11. Great ideas, Penny. I purchased a scarf at Payless Shoe Store a few years ago and used it on a fall table. Scarfs work so perfectly down the center of the table....and then you can always wear them when you get bored with decorating with them :) I love your idea of using the gift bag as a chalkboard look, too!

  12. Great tips, Penny! I never would have guessed your table runner was a scarf or the chalkboard picture was a gift bag! You encourage me to think outside of the box when decorating. Hope you're having a fantastic week! ~Amy

  19. Penny, You're a girl after my own heart! Your decorating style is what I lean toward. My house is decorated with antique furniture, for the most part, along with antique tea sets, doilies, etc. You have inspired me to do more. The Victorians didn't hold back, so I'm going to quit holding back after seeing what you're doing! Thank you for the inspiration!
