Duncan Phyfe Potting Bench

H made a fun potting bench/table from a Duncan Phyfe  that we bought at a yard sale  Saturday.   It was in pretty rough shape,  but the price was right....$25.

Both of the leaves were already off of the table,  so he used one of them as a backboard.   Then he layered a window frame and an arched wall shelf to the backboard.   He was going to put the other leaf across the front of the table,  but it covered up too much of the pretty legs.   A coat of white paint and she was ready to go....

Here is the before and after.   I don't know if you've ever painted over mahogany before,  but even if you use a coat of  primer the stain still bleeds through.   I think the  pale pink that bleeds thru is pretty,  so I don't worry about it.

I wrapped a garland of silk roses across the top and added my new yard sale sign.

I have some pots ready to be planted....

and plenty of soil nearby.

H put the new potting bench in front of the studio

Here's a few pics of the inside of the studio.

The potting bench may also do double duty since it sits near the tea room....maybe I will serve tea on it!

  8. Now that is what I call a CLASSY potting bench! But of course it would make a delightful place to have tea.. I wouldn't want to get that lovely white all dirty with potting soil..and the legs...lovely! I love my potting bench..but it's classless compared to yours! :)
