Fall Tablescape

I unpacked a tote of shabby chic pumpkins to decorate the kitchen in a fall theme,  but I still have a few more totes to unpack before I am ready to do any more fall decorating.   I wanted to have a pumpkin in my fall tablescape tonight,  so I had to come up with an alternative until I get back to the studio to unpack those fall totes.

I love the look of  a simple and easy pumpkin made by forming a circle of tea cups on a plate and putting a dried pumpkin stem in the center....easy peasy!

I'm going to serve our supper in my swan soup tureen..

We are having a light supper tonight in the family dining room......

The swan soup tureen is swimming in a bed of pastel fall flowers......

Simple place setting.....a dinner plate as a charger for the soup bowl

The paper swan place mats came from Amazon......

On one end of the table is the lit cabinets that hold my collection of milk glass......

The TV tray and piano stool belong to Ky.....she can easily move them by my chair if I'm helping her with homework,  have an afternoon snack,  or move them over by her Papa's chair if she wants to set by him..

On the other end of the table is a DF/buffet.    I can open up the leaves and add it to the existing table to make a huge family table.    Or,   I can use it as a buffet with the leaves folded down.

I have a vignette on the buffet with  the pumpkins I made from vintage wedding dresses

I took this photo of the family room from the kitchen doorway.    I have the fall tree set up,  but I need to replace some of the lights and decorate it.....maybe next week!

This photo of the family room was taken in the sun room doorway

What is H doing today?     He is cooking 20#'s of chicken legs and thighs!   The leg meat and skin will be chopped up to feed our cats....much cheaper  (37 cents a lb in 10 lb bags)   than cat food and also more healthy!    The cat food is the 10 bundles of chicken at the top of the photo.   That's enough to feed them for about 3 weeks.

The 4 bundles of good thigh meat will go into the freezer to make our meals with later.

Well,   only 3 bundles are going to the freezer because H is making chicken and dumpling  for our supper tonight!   He made a big pot so there will be plenty to put in the freezer for nights that we don't want to cook.

I'm going to serve his chicken and dumpling in the pretty soup tureen to make a simple supper feel special!

I am running late getting some red white and blue decor out in the front yard for the Labor Day Weekend,    as we have been getting some much needed rain the last few days here in Eastern New Mexico.  Maybe tomorrow!

  3. wondering if you have a recipe for the dumplings? My mother in law from my ex husband made wonderful ones that looked just like yours. He was the ex, but my MIL always remained my beloved friend until she died years ago.
