Saying Goodbye

I've had to say goodbye to the backyard deck that we've had so many wonderful times on.    It was rotted out to the point that it just needed to be completely taken out and replaced with ?????   I don't know what we will put in it's place yet.

See how pretty the fireplace looked in years past.......

I think H plans to leave the fireplace up against the fence and put a brick hearth under it.

We stacked the porch posts that were on the deck in the corner ......maybe I'll find a place for them in the new construction.

My little Magnolia tree is blooming for the first time this year.

For such a little tree,   it has a lot of blooms on it.

I took this photo this morning.      There's just a small section of deck left to take out.

Before.............................................................................Today

I thought I would share some photo's that I've taken over the 11 years that we had the deck.

We had lots of meals on the deck...................and a nap or two on the old iron baby bed.

I hope to use the porch posts you see in the background with the bird cages on them in the new construction.

We used part of the white iron railing in other area's of the yard,  but we still have several pieces left over.

One summer I had the deck decorated in a coastal theme.

This was one of my favorite looks........

especially in the evening when the deck was all aglow!

Here's the deck from the other side........

And here it is now.........sad face.......

The plan is to start the new construction next week and I can't wait to show you the new area........Once I figure out what to do with it.....lol!

  2. Do you have to take in your fabric items each night? We have rain here in New England so it would get soaked or the dew would make it damp and musty.

    1. Hi, I live in Eastern New Mexico. We don't get a lot of rain, and usually know ahead of time if it's going to rain. Thanks for stopping by....hugs...

  3. It is hard to lose something like that. We recently had to tear out a beloved patio at our lakehouse because the shore was washing away and it was sinking into the drink. We teplaced with a new deck made from metal Beams and that new fake wood that does not rot, warp or fade. We love it.

  8. It can be sad to make changes, especially when you'd rather not. I can't wait to see what you all come up with in replacement. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos with us at Creatively Crafty #ccbg :)

  9. They say change is good. Obviously there were some fun times on the deck and you kept it beautiful for every season. I loved the Coastal theme too!

  10. Such a shame to lose that patio but I'm sure you'll rebuild something that is even better and continues to give you many happy times in the fresh air and shade.

  11. Penny,
You could put in a patio using pavers which would hold up better or you could rebuild the deck using Trex decking( I think that is what it is called) . My nephew put in a covered deck using it and it is supposed to last for 40 years!! There are different finishes to pick from...Can't wait to see what you will come up with...
    Hugs,
    Deb

  14. Of all the things we left behind when we moved across country, I miss my deck the most of all -- so you have my sympathy!! You still have those wonderful shady trees and I can't wait to see what you will create as a replacement.

It's always nice to have a fresh start though, and you are so talented, I'm sure that space will be gorgeous again very soon.
