Sweet Potato Vine is the Star in a Late Summer Garden

I planted two sweet potato vines in the ground under a weathered wicker settee back in May.    They have spread to make a beautiful ground cover over the summer and now they are the star in my late summer garden.

I loved how the sun peeking thru the trees this morning and highlighting the sweet potato vine.

It's a gorgeous early fall.....late summer morning here in Eastern New Mexico!

Sweet potato vine is also a great choice for container gardening too!

The vine in this concrete container has spread all across the back of the wicker settee and out onto the walkway to the greenhouse.

The sweet potato vine is the star.......but the coleus is almost a beautiful!

The coleus baskets have got so big over the summer.
I had a bug problem in the spring that almost killed them,   but as you can see they got over it!

I plan to add some fall touches to the inside of the greenhouse this week.....

Maybe just a pumpkin or a couple of white mum's.......something simple and easy.

When H and I were out treasure hunting last week end,     I snapped a few photo's of houses that had used sweet potato vine in their landscaping.       It is a perfect addition to any style home.......

What do you think?     It goes with any style home....huh!

I have planted potato vine every spring for years,    and I think the leaves are the biggest they've ever been this summer.

I think part of the reason my plants have done so well over the  summer is because we've got more rain this year than we usually do.

H is going to mow the grass later today.
I'm going to sit on the deck,   watch him mow,    and enjoy the smell of fresh mowed grass!

  3. I bought two lovely pots of coleus for 50 cents each at a yard sale last weekend- they should look as nice as yours before long. I got several pots of old Florida plants as well. The one vine I bought gets wonderful huge orchid like flowers... the fellow took me through their awesome secret gardens in the back of their home... what a treat!

  8. I love sweet potato vines. I plant several in my containers on the deck each summer. I may consider using them in my borders next year. Thanks for the inspiration.
