Easing into Fall

I''m still enjoying the last days of summer,   but I have to admit that I'm ready for the cooler days & evenings of fall.

H was sweet enough to move a table & 4 chairs that were out in the yard up to the back porch....thank you honey!

The table is a yard sale find,   but the 4 chairs have been in the family over 40 years.     Mother & Daddy bought the set years ago......the table is long gone.....but I still have the chairs.   The aqua  seat covers are original and still in amazingly good shape,   so H just left them on and covered over them with a buffalo check fabric.

We will really enjoy dining al fresco on the back porch!

I visited the garden center over the week end and couldn't resist bringing home a couple of white mum plants.    I put one on each side of the fireplace.     Then I gave the wreath I already had over the mantel a  mini makeover by adding some simple fall touches.

I made a simple centerpiece for the table.....

I added fall pillows to each of the settee's ......

I wasn't really ready yet to do a fall mantel,   so I just put a bundle of straw on each end of the mantle and clipped a buffalo check print to the front of each one of them     The prints are just ones that I found on Pinterest and printed off on our home printer.    I can easily reprint them if the original ones get rained on......which is very unlikely since we live on the dry plains of Eastern New Mexico!

Here's a close up of the pillows on the other settee.

The curtains I had on the back porch had been there several years,  so I replaced them with some buffalo check ones.

Here's a before and after showing the new curtains AND different settee's.    Funny story about the settee's......Our daughter needed seating to set by her new swimming pool and she liked the dark brown ones that I had.    SO,   I gave her those and the 2 chaise lounges that match and bought new settee's for us.    I love the lighter color!

I always enjoy your visits so much,   Please stop by again soon!

  1. I really like the buffalo check but can't yet get too excited about Fall decorating here in S.E. Washington where it is still in 90's. My patio is not even cool until after dark, though it is covered and have a brook in the back yard. Looking forward to cooler days but doubt that will happen until October. I too was tempted to buy some mums after my gorgeous white pansies bit the dust but like I said .....still too hot here!

  2. Good morning Penny, I love the buffalo check "everything". How cute can it get I ask myself each time you change things up? Well, here's another keeper for sure. I do like the white mums for Fall. I will have to look for some here. I am not ready for the cold, but I sure am ready for the fires up here to be put out. The smoke is like visiting the Smokey Mountains back East. I couldn't even see the lake across the street for nearly 3 days. Oh, like everything else that happens to us, we will bounce back.
    Thanks for the great post.

  3. Your porch looks so refreshed and such a nice place to ear outside. And I think it's so nice that your daughter can come shop at your house for furniture at her house. And it gives you a good excuse to buy something new. That's great for both of you!

I really love the addition of the table and chairs!! I like the black and white checked fabric through out the porch!! Oddly, we have had very little rain this Summer in comparison to other Summers..
