Is Open Shelving for Everyone

Open shelving....is it for everyone....NO!    Is it for me?  MAYBE!

I have a built-in cabinet at a wide spot at the end of a long hallway that takes you to the
bedrooms, bathrooms, and laundry room.

I can decorate the open shelving cabinet for seasons & holidays as long as I keep the decor simple & neutral OTHERWISE the cabinet looks too cluttered and busy for my taste!

I have my cabinet decorated for Fall with several neutral vignettes.    I know I said I like to keep the decor simple and I'm right on the edge of a busy & cluttered look ...lol!

The door to the right of the cabinet has what I call the "hall bath".....

It's the only bathroom that you don't have to go into a bedroom to get to it,   so it's the one for guests (friends & family)

I shared the other end of the hall in an earlier post......

Here's a link to that post....

  1. I love the streamlining you have been doing...giving your eyes a rest to focus on what's really lovely and important is a task, by all means. Lovely! Sandi

  4. Great question. I think I am somewhere in the middle and still crave the look of less clutter behind closed cabinets and shelves, but also enjoy a well designed vignette. I always enjoy seeing your pictures. This post will be a feature this week. Maybe you can get more people to chime in on this question. #HomeMattersParty
