Spring Mantle

When I started planning how I would decorate the mantle for spring,  I had in my mind that I would use the existing empty picture frame that was on the mantle and somehow have spring flowers spilling out of it.

The picture frame is hung with a thin silver wire from a hook in the ceiling....and is about 4 inches away from the fireplace....just enough room for a row of styrofoam blocks to be placed behind the frame to hold the flowers in place.

My frame is not a shadow box in the traditional sense, but for lack of a better word...I'm going to call it that...lol!    A shadow box in traditionally a "deep frame used to display three dimensional items...with a glass front"...    anyway,  close enough!

There is a small area in front of the frame to add some more spring touches....

I have a miniature bird house on the left side of the mantle....

On right side of the mantle....

I have another miniature bird cage....

and two sweet birds.

It would be so wonderful to fill my shadow box with fresh flowers......  

but....that is not an option!

I have used silk iris....

and tulips,  plus an assortment of what I call "filler" flowers and greenery.

There is  a chalkboard,  some pink and black polka dot rain boots,  and a little white duck on the hearth....

April showers bring May flowers.

If you look HARD,    there are some very realistic silk flowers to be found.     

I bought these iris at Ben Franklin many years ago....they are hand wrapped and look pretty realistic.....

When it gets closer to Easter,  I will add some bunnies and other touches of  Easter to my spring mantle.

I am so ready for spring to come!
