Christmas Brunch

We are opening presents at our daughters home Christmas morning and plan to serve  brunch later in the morning.

H and I thought this morning  we would practice making one of the things that will on the buffet.......lol....wink...wink.....does anyone really believe that we don't know how to make biscuits and gravy!    Truth be told....we just wanted biscuits and gravy this morning!

I have the table set in the kitchen for a quick bite.....still lots of things to do before Christmas gets here.    Is it really next week!!!!

I bought these dishes at the auction a few weeks ago.....

There is about 20 pieces .....$14.    It is a real mixture of pieces,  but I thought they would work well to layer with my white ironstone.

Now for the scoop on one of the things that will be on our Christmas brunch.    So easy......just pop open some cans of your favorite biscuits,  make the gravy and put it in a crock pot to keep it warm on the buffet table.  We like to crumble bacon or sausage on the top of our biscuits and gravy.      Easy peasy....who wants to be at the stove cooking when you can be watching the grands playing with what Santa brought them.   We will make quiches and monkey bread the day before and just pop them in the oven.    We will graze on goodies in the afternoon and have a wonderful Christmas dinner about 7:00.

Here is a  picture of what in my box of dishes from the auction     I really liked the big soup bowls....wish there had been a few cups,  but the cream ironstone cups work great.

In the background you can see the stove with ceramic cake and pie lid covers.

Here's a closer look.
I found a new one (left photo) at a yard sale a few weeks ago.  There wasn't a bottom,   but it was only $5.     I like it better than the  apple pie lid

I still need to wrap presents....haven't wrapped narry a one yet....lol!   Hopefully I can get that done this afternoon!

  2. Penny,
I have a set of similar dishes!! I love them as they remind me of a Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol!!
Biscuits and gravy are something I have never had. I guess it is a southern dish....

    Hugs,

  4. I am doing the same thing you are doing..wrapping gifts today. I still have a bit of shopping to do..I should have done it yesterday while we were out. I got such a kick out of your burner covers. Is that what their original purpose was? I've never seen anything like them.
The dishes are familiar and there was a lot of them around at one time..but you were fortunate to find some. It's been years since I'e seen those. Really cute..but the napkins stole the show, Penny! Those are just plain adorable!!

  5. Gorgeous kitchen! Of course you have to have a trial run of biscuits and gravy...ha! Years ago we had Japanese students stay with us for a few days during their summer tour of the United States. As our guest was rushing to catch the bus for their next city, she ran back and said "biscuits and gravy recipe please!). Good find on the dishes! Love the owl napkins... Enjoy your holiday with your family, Miss Penny!

  6. Can we all come over? Sounds delicious and yes - I'm from Virginia where Biscuits and Gravy were loved as well as Biscuits and Sorgum at Grandmaw's house in the l950's! Those were the plates we had for everyday dishes growing up - I'll never forget the spinning wheel one!

    1. Your comment jogged my memory! At my grandma's house we would have biscuits and gravy for breakfast and then for 'breakfast dessert" we would spread butter and peanut butter on a biscuit and then cover it with syrup....yummy! Christmas hugs....

  9. We always had biscuits with gravy, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and french toast. We would have some shredded cheese on the table as some like to add it on top of the gravy. I have gift bags but no tags, so must hit the dollar tree store!
I need to bake southern style pecan pies this week for Christmas eve and day. I have orders. Oh, and also have to make the deviled as requested as I was told mine are the best. I use Durkee's Famous Sauce instead of mustard and it has more of a tang to it.
