Styling the Backyard

I used to have a hard time styling  the outside of our home,     that is.....until I realized that the yard is just an extension of the inside.       The yard needs furniture,   accessories,   fabric,  texture,    and of course lots of plants.

It's easy to add garden "texture" with a big basket of flowers that have different colors and shapes.

I like to use Boston ferns to add greenery "texture" to my garden.

The area I wanted to share today is a long narrow flower bed and the back porch off the sun room.

I have rose bushes planted in the flower bed.     When the rose bushes aren't in bloom,   I add color and texture with baskets of flowers and greenery.

Look how many buds there are on the rose bushes......this area will be gorgeous in a few days when the buds open.   But for now I have added color with plants and accessories .....such as the yellow pick up and wind chimes on the chair in the background.

Look at all the textures in the baskets sitting in the metal chairs.

I have a metal windmill stuck in each of the baskets.

I found my windmills in the spring garden section at Hobby Lobby if you need one for your garden.

I took a few photo's of the flower bed from the front porch of Our Happy Place  (formerly know as the greenhouse)

Now for a closer look at the porch off the sun room......

I like "balance" on the outside just like I do on the inside.....so I hung a yellow petunia basket on each side of the porch.    I have identical plants going down the steps of the porch for more balance.

I planted a wooden pickup Welcome sign next to the french doors that go into the sun room.     ( the sign is from Hobby Lobby if you would like to plant one in your garden)

If you look close at the left side of the photo,    you can see the Happy Place reflecting in the mirror that's hung under the white lattice work trellis.    Mirrors are so much fun in the garden,   don't you think!

A couple of the buds have started to open on the red rose bush.......

H had just watered the garden and I loved how the leaves still have drops of water on them.

Can't wait for all the roses to be in bloom.....ahhh the smell will be heavenly!

H has been busy today taking down the deck that's on the east side of the sun room.     All the wrought iron railing and porch posts are down and the faux fireplace has been set off the deck to be used in the new construction.       The kids will be over Saturday to remove the deck.
If you look close on the deck,     you can see two cats waiting for their treat.     Dry food is always available,   but about 4 pm everyday,    H gives them a treat.      ( It's usually a few pieces of left over chicken)

The yard is almost totally shaded at this time of the day.     The sun is setting......time to relax in the yard with a glass of wine.......
