Apple Blossoms in July?

I love to keep fresh cut flowers in the house during the summer...well, really year round!   I cut a basket full of fresh flowers from the yard this morning to make a big bouquet for the kitchen island.

I found a milk jar wire crate at the yard sales over the weekend and decided to use that to display all the beautiful flowers from the garden.
There are loads of flowers blooming in the garden now....

Including Apple blossoms...that's right...apple blossoms!   Do you see it up in the left top corner of the photo?

You may remember my post on the terrible hail storm that we had July 3rd...well, it stripped almost all of the leaves off of the apple tree (see how bare it is in the photo on the right?)

The tree is now putting on new leaves and apple blossoms....in July!    Isn't that CRAZY??

I took this picture of the garden this morning...it is recovering nicely from the hail.   I don't have a "before" picture because the garden was beat to the ground after the storm....I couldn't bear to look at it!   Our neighbor pulled up all his garden plants up after the hail...I'm glad we decided to give ours a chance to come back.
even my little basin of grass has recovered and needs to be "mowed"...tehee!

This is the back side of my summer flower garden arrangement,.   To add a little whimsy to the arrangement, I added a tutu, bird house, doily and bird nest.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!

  2. Good Afternoon Penny, Your vase of flowers are so romantic looking and your garden has survived the hail stone storm very well. It seems the weather has been topsy turvy in lots of places this year. Here in England it still felt like winter into June, we thought summer was never going to arrive. Your apple tree is very confused isn't it, as was our apple and pear trees, only the odd blossom this year due to the cold weather.
I did smile when I saw your sink full of grass..... brilliant.
    Best Wishes

  4. Penny,
Just beautiful!! Love the blooms and love the arrangement. Such a sweet little birdhouse too!!
Most of the flowers that looked like they died after that heat wave we had are coming back, slowly but surely. This week will be a nice week here with temps around 80 for a high and down in the 50's at night! I will be a very happy person!!

    Hugs,
    Debbie
