Draggin Main

When I was a teenager,  you knew where to find me on Saturday night....down town draggin Main.   The car would be filled with my girlfriends,  the Beatles would be on the radio...what fun times.    We have a whole day set aside to enjoy the old times here in our little town.....come join the fun!

The day starts off with a car show at the Curry County Event Center.    While the guys are out there,   the girls are down town Shopping!

Our main street has lots of antique shops.....Exhibit A is where I have a booth.....

I love to buy clothes and vintage goodies at this 2 Shabby Divas....

If you can't find what you are looking for at our local shops......you don't need it

Butllet Bob has everything....including an alien blow up riding a motorcycle.....

Penny Lane is owned by one of my friends...she's from England...

I would like to show all of our local antique shops....

but this post.....

would be tooooo long!

My ride in 1965 was a car like this.....

I didn't have the fancy trunk  or the window air conditioner.....but I sure had a lot of fun in this car.      When it quit running,  I drove a 1958 Ford,  and then I moved up to a 1960 Chevy Impala Two door....white....with a 348 engine....4 speed....it was a cool ride...lol!

This was my dream car....but I wanted it in aqua and white....

There were hundreds of cars in the show....

After the show is over in the morning,   some of the cars are parked on main street.

We saw lots of old friends .....this is Bill....he lived down the street from us when we were first married.

Bill had his car in the show...love the dice hanging from his mirror...

Besides shopping,  you can visit the Rock and Roll museum down town....

Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs recorded Bottle of Wine and Sugar Shack in this studio.....they also played at some of our high school dances.    For more info about some of the others that recorded here...click this link....................https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Petty

There is plenty to eat on Main Street today......isn't this food truck neat!

Need a cool treat....

or some roasted corn!
There were several  venders smoking meat in big smokers and serving pulled pork sandwiches..somehow,  I didn't get a photo of any of them...sorry....

Late in the evening on Saturday,  the dragging Main begins.    It takes over an hour to make a "drag" as it is bumper to bumper.  We loaded up Kyleigh and took a drag...she saw her teacher from 2nd grade in her pretty red convertible.   H and I saw  lots of our old friends that we used to drag Main with.    Lots of memories.
Our Court House is located at 7th and Main. where  I had an office in the Administration Wing for many years.

  1. Penny!! OMG!! Where do I begin!! First of all, I would think i died and went to heaven to have that many Antique shops on one street. We do not see anything like that around here. maybe up in some towns in the Pocono mountains you may see that but not in NEPA in Luzerne County in the Wyoming Valley!!!
And that Food truck is amazing. I never saw one in an 18 wheeler. A local Food Truck, What the Fork! gained national fame coming in #2 in a food truck contest on Kelly and Michael Live in TV. Now this is a sign of the area where I live but we have a lot of food trucks selling potato Pancakes and Pierogies!! It's the eastern European influence here from our ancestors that came to America and LOTS of Pasta as we have a huge Italian descent population here!!
Thanks for sharing!! That was so darn interesting!!
    Hugs,
    Deb

  5. Oh My, that looks like so much fun! Even though Phoenix is huge, I don't think we have that many great antique shops in the entire city!! What a great place to shop! I'm sure you enjoyed your day! Thanks for sharing it! Blessings, Cindy

  12. I stumbled across this post while scrolling through "The Scoop" posts. I used to live in Clovis about 7 years ago and it was so much fun seeing how things have changed. Some of the stores you showed were not even there when I lived there so as I was scrolling, I kept thinking, this town looks familiar. LOL Than I recognized that it was my old town. How fun to reminisce. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Such a fun time that must be, so neat to see your downtown area. We called it cruising the pits when I was growing up, it wasn't too long after I graduated that they stopped it from happening down town.

  14. This would be so fun! I'd love for out town to do this. Although we need more Antique stores. This would just be so fun. I remember wanting one of those Mustangs! And the Beatles! Oh yes! This made me smile just thinking about the good ole days!

  19. How fun Penny! As a teen we dragged main as well. Boy were those the days!! Now, if kids tried to do that they'd get arrested. So sad, that they don't have that fun tradition. Roads are just too busy now for dragging I guess. Loved seeing the old cars and so many fabulous vintage shops! Thanks for taking us for a ride at SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

  20. This is so fun! I remember as a teen, the kids still did this every Friday night. We usually ended up at Sonic somehow or 'nother, and they'd all be out having fun. Love this glimpse back in time. Thanks so much for sharing at Inspire Me Wednesday. Featuring you in this week's issue.
