Container Gardening

We've had really good results using containers to grow our vegetable plants in,   so that's what we did again this summer.

Squash is a summer favorite in our family,  so we have several containers planted with different squash      We plant several containers because we have lots of family that we share with.

This old iron wheel barrow belonged to my granddad and we have unsuccessfully  tried to use it for container gardening. in the past.    It was hard to keep water in it with the back feet on the ground....it tilted backward...letting the water run out.   H put a couple of blocks under the back legs to make the container level this year and it has worked like a champ.

H picked squash for our lunch today from this  plant that's in a vintage garden cart.

We have tomato plants in containers around the yard,  and also some in the greenhouse.   If we get a bad hail storm that ruins our outdoor tomato plants,  we still have the greenhouse plants to enjoy the rest of the summer.

H has a squash plant in the old washing machine.     He has tomato plants,  bell pepper and chili pepper plants in containers too.

Do you see the opening under the orange trumpet vine?    If you move the wicker settee aside and go thru that opening you will go down  a side yard to the south of the studio.    H has tomato plants along the fence and at the end of the fence is a big grape vine.    There is about a 15 foot square area to the side of the grapevine and behind the studio that I will show you another time.

The area behind the white wrought iron fence in the background of this photo is  where we used to have our vegetable garden      That area is full of wild flowers now but H has the tiller out and we are going to repurpose it .

I wanted to share this photo I took the other day when we were out on a Sunday afternoon drive.
Large tree trunks are carved into different animal figures in our area and are used as yard ornaments..     This one caught my eye as it is a little different from the ones I'm used to seeing ...... the bear is using the pond as a bathroom.....lol!

  13. You have a regular little vegetable farm going on there! I think that is the only way I will be able to grow veggies (and maybe flowers, too) here in Florida, so I better decide what I want and get some containers going! Thanks so much for sharing at Celebrate Your Story!
