Freshening my Stale Flower Beds

The flower beds always start to look a little "stale"  about mid summer every year so yesterday H & I spent the day freshening them up a little bit

In the before pic you can see a white bench right in the middle of the flower bed.   It's hard to keep the weeding done under the bench,   so we moved it out to clean that area.    Once it was moved out and the area cleaned,   I decided that I liked that look....a pathway thru the flower bed!

I added more color (purple) to the flower bed by just adding some baskets of flowers that were in another area of the yard.    I had them over on the concrete in front of the Sanctuary and it was just too hot for them there,   so I moved them over into a more shady area of the yard.

My flocks have always been a purple color,   but this year some of them are pinkish!

The pathway thru the flower bed gives me a nice little short cut to the other side of the yard....

It's Siesa time for the cat......she loves to lay on the ledge about this time every day.'

Now to share the bigger change that we made on the other side of the She Shed.

We moved the freight cart you see in the before pic over to another area of the yard so H could make some changes to it.       It had killed the grass that was under it,   so I decided to make a matching path like the one we created thru the flower bed.      To accsent the path,   H moved an arched metal piece that was on hand and put a buffalo check curtain on it.

Here's how it looks from the back side of the yard.

Here's a photo from the side......

If you look close in the background on the right side of the photo,   you will see the freight cart that we moved from the side of the She Shed.    It has a wooden spool on it that H has makeover plans for.    H found the spool in the alley next to our dumpster the other day and brought it home with him!   Since it wasn't IN the dumpster we won't brand him a dumpster!

  8. Ooh, it all looks so beautiful, Penny. I was just looking at my flowers yesterday (I don't have that many!), and I was thinking they were needing a refresh. Some are getting leggy and straggly. You did such a great job.

  9. Penny, I love the changes to your garden and the new paths look very nice!! Those flowers with the pink heads? What are they?? Are they a phlox?? I would like to seed some into my yard if I knew what they were. Thank you in advance!! <3

Happy to feature your lovely summery post at this week's Share Your Style #312 for you,
    Barb :)

    1. Hi Barb, yes they are phlox. They used to all be purple but over the years a few plants have became pink so I guess they must cross polinate somewhat Thank you so much for taking time to have a wonderful party for us each week, it is very much appreciated.
I'm always honored to be featured at the party....hugs...

  10. Your flowers look beautiful, especially after you freshened things up, Penny! You've inspired me to want to make things look a little fresher around my own home.

  12. Penny, this is my first time to visit your blog and I love it! So fun. Your yard and home are beautiful! I always looking for flower inspiration for my yard and I know I can find it here!

  13. Penny,
Your flowers are gorgeous...I have been moving pots around all Summer as perennials stop blooming and are cut back or if they seem to do better in another area...we have had not only excessive heat for this area but also a lot of rain, all of which are taking a toll on the gardens.....

It makes my day to hear from my friends!
