Garden Fireplace

H has been working the last few days on a faux fireplace for our deck.   This is the fourth fireplace he has made and I love the way it turned out.

Isn't it beautiful!

Here are some before, during, and after pictures.   The back of the fireplace is constructed from three 2x12x7'  and two 2x6x7'.($60 at Lowes)  The mantle is a 2x12x6' ($6)  The columns are 2x10x42" (auction $5) The white frames on the columns are shutters and the pink piece in the middle of them is a piece of rocking chair leg.  The victorian corner pieces on the sides of the mantle are some I bought at a yard sale for $2  The piece under the mantle is a $4 yard sale shelf.  The mirror was $5 at a yard sale.   So, with screws, paint, and lumber...the total project was less than $100.

I hung a piece of leaded glass in front of the mirror....and put some zinnias in blue ball jars for a simple vignette on the mantle.
The fireplace "screen" is made from a baby crib headboard and 2 shutters that match the ones on the fireplace.  These are the kind of shutters that you can add fabric to.   I thought about burlap in them but decided to leave them open.
I have the table set for our first dinner in front of the new fireplace.

I have used a vintage table cloth....
The centerpiece  is a vintage oil lamp on one of my mothers starched doilies.  The plates are a .50 yard sale find and the coffee cup and water glass were .25 each.   The beautiful butter dishes belonged to my mother....I think it is fun to serve dessert in a butter dish.

I think we will wait to eat until it gets dark so I can light all the candles....

This is a repurposed baby changing table.  It has held plants in the sun room and then went to the studio to hold my paint supplies.  I bought some old school lockers to hold my paint and thought that I might sell this in a yard sale.  BUT.....I had seen one used as a beverage server on someones blog the other day (sorry, but I don't recall who's it was) so I decided to use it on the deck as a beverage server!

I love my new fireplace...thank you H!
Our little kitty was  watching me take the photos...she is so curious!

Dinner on the deck, in front of the fireplace.....

Very romantic with candle light.....

Life is good....

  1. I love the purple and white display. That is so pretty. Your fireplace really is quite a focal point in your garden. It must be wonderful to sit in one of those big comfy white chairs on a warm summer day. A kitten...tell us more about that little sweetie.
