I used a crocheted table cloth and plaid place mats to start the tablescape, then I started layering on the dishes! |
I made each place setting different ....this is the one at the head of the table... |
and here are the other three. |
I added a few pieces to the mirrored shelf on the wall to the right of the table.... |
I also added a shabby picture to the large shelf. It's not very clear in the photo, but the flowers are in a very worn pink ballet slipper. |
Here are some of the pieces that are on the buffet/coffee table....lol! |
Here they are ready for their "make over" (forgot to take pictures of the two pink ones) |
I wanted a special centerpiece for my "Desert Rose" tablescape..... |
so, I used two dozen fresh pink roses. The house smells wonderful, just like a rose garden! |
Did you notice that some of the pictures are more cream colored and some are white. Well, I bought a new Canon camera over the week end...which pictures are better? Cream or White? |

Oh, Penny! Your vignettes always make me smile! : ) Really gorgeous as always - love these pretty rose dishes and the beautiful way you display them. Well done! Catherine
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your special dishes! Love them! You're dining room looks so enchanting.
ReplyDeletePenny, how lovely!!! I love all are pretty dishes they dress the table beautifully...
ReplyDeleteThis post brings back memories because my paternal Grandmother also had "Desert Rose" dishes. Many Sunday dinners of fried chicken were eaten on this beautiful pattern. Unfortunately her dishes were passed down to her daughter, my Aunt. Lovely presentation dear! What a beautiful collection you have.
ReplyDeleteMy mother has the Desert Rose dishes as well, though not as many as you have!
ReplyDeleteYour floral dishes are beautiful and those pink chairs are calling me.
ReplyDeleteOh my, every time I happen to come across a picture of this pattern, I remember having it, years ago.
ReplyDeleteBut sadly, I wasn't wise enough to know I should hold onto those dishes... Needless to say, I did not.
Happy you have such a lovely family collection.
Tessa~
Your collection is very dear to my heart. My mother-in-law has a stellar collection similar to yours. It is wonderful to see others who love this pattern as much as she does. Lovely! Thanks for sharing, and I really love all of the different displays that you created.
ReplyDeleteDesert Rose is a pattern I remember from my youth because many of my friends selected this pattern when they married. How special for you and your daughter to have this set to enjoy through the generations.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous china, and a beautiful tablescape! My m-i-l had the Franciscan Apple pattern; I like the Desert Rose much better.

ReplyDeletePenny, enjoy your post and blog. I love the way you put the solid stemware with the pattern and the plaid placemats. I sell a lot of Desert Rose and pink glasses at my antique booth (Things Loved) at Uniques and Antiques in Plainview. I feel like we ae practically neighbors. I drive to Clovis several times a year junking. The white painted chairs really updated the look also. I personally prefer the lighter pictures, so use that camera. Oh yes, I usually look for your post in SSS and go to your blog from there so you will get a vote.

Penny, enjoy your blog. I really like the way you mixed the solde pink stimware with it. Have to admit I saw this earlier today, but went back to savvy souther style so I could give you a vote. I sell a lot of Desert Rose at my antique booth (Things Loved) at Uniques and Antiques in Plainview. I feel like we are practically neighbors. I use to live in Clovis many winters ago.

This set is perfect in your home Penny! I've always loved the desert rose pattern. The tea is so nice to have... among all your other unusual pieces! I see you also have pink depression glass, my fav. I have my mother's luncheon set in pink depression and love it. We're so blessed to have such treasures passed down to our care.

My mother in law had 24 Desert place settings and then inherited 24 from HER aunt...I got 12 settings when she passed. I really don't use them often as they don't fit the decor here, but your vignettes have inspired me to get them out once in a while. YOu certainly have some interesting pieces!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have the pattern that belonged to your mother and grandmother! They're very special and the pink roses look marvelous as a centerpiece. Thanks so much for sharing at my HOME and enjoy your day, Penny.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
Oh my gosh I can't believe you even have the glasses with the rose on them..you have a beautiful set of dishes and I am sure some beautiful memories of these dishes, now you get to use them in your home...Phyllis
ReplyDeleteI always liked Desert Rose also ,I remember the first time I seen the set of dishes a new friend out in Vasalia California showed me the set she had picked out for her wedding china and it was Desert Rose that was 1962
ReplyDeleteAlso I know a lady wanting to sell her complete set of Desert Rose very cheap she said , just is tired of it, it was her MIL's
So if you want lots extra pieces it is available
your table looks so good, ruffles and all
Visiting from The Charm of Home. This is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy mother had this pattern, as did one of my cousins who was the same age as my mother. When my mother no longer needed them I gave hers to the cousin, who was thrilled. (The cousin is now almost 93 and in the nursing home. I am kind of hoping they might find their way back to me someday.)
ReplyDeleteYou have quite a collection! What are the pink goblets -- do you know who made them, etc.?
Desert Rose is one of my favorite patterns. I only have a few pieces but think it is so lovely. Lucky you to have inherited this family set!
ReplyDeleteJust lovely, and the chairs being painted really makes such a difference ...
ReplyDeletePenny,
ReplyDeleteI just realized that I missed this post. Nothing could look more perfect in your beautiful home than the Desert Rose pattern of these dishes!! Beautiful! It is such a pretty pattern that I see on blogs quite often but it just looks so elegant and spectacular in your home!!
It was made for your home, or so it looks that way!! LOL!
I don't think you are crazy at all but quite ingenious for putting the coffee table on top of the buffet. Brilliant idea!! H. is such an excellent painter!! I have to paint everything myself and we do not have much room to do so. I do ALL the painting because truth be told, Joe is a sloppy painter and I am far better at it. He will even tell you that!! LOL!!
I did want to paint my bedroom furniture this year but there is just to much going on so that will be put off for next year. I am also considering painting my DR furniture but that may be where Joe say no , which he NEVER does. The furniture was his grandmothers and was a blond finish originally but as a wedding present, his uncle who is a professional house painter, re-did the furniture for us. That is why he may be opposed to painting it.....we will have to wait and see.....
Hugs,
Deb
Your table is beautiful! One of my friends received her mother's Desert Rose dishes and she was adding to it herself. They are very pretty.
ReplyDeletePenny, what a beautiful collection. It is so special to be passed from generation to generation! I love the Desert Rose and saw a large collection at an antique sale yesterday. I had to resist. Just do not have room to start another collection. I will just have to enjoy yours. Thanks for sharing them with SYC.

I have the same Desert Rose dishes I got from my Great Grand mother. Love them
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of Desert Rose! My grandma had a complete set too but when she passed they went to my cousin who cherishes them. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet diningroom. What kind of camera did you buy? The pictures looks great! Thanks for sharing at DIY Sunday Showcase!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection! Don't think I've ever seen the matching glasses before or the "chicken bone" plates (that's what we called them - lol! they must have a real name). My mother had the very same pink rose doily under your vase of roses -- makes me smile to see it!
ReplyDeleteDesert Rose is timeless, isn't it? I too have a set that was my grandmothers. My mother also collected it and had many beautiful pieces. However, you've displayed your in such a gorgeous way! I love all the roses, lace, white and mirrors. Just breathtaking! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSharlotte
Your Desert Rose sets a gorgeous table with the crocheted tablecloth. My MIL had a set as one of her special china she would use. We added many of the extra pieces for holidays and birthdays. You are fortunate to have a family heirloom and are enjoying using, We now have my MIL set and always think of her when ever I see it. Have a great week!

Your roses are beautiful. Thanks for sharing at Silver Pennies Sundays.
ReplyDeleteYour china set is so very pretty!! A Beautiful collection.
ReplyDeleteVery nice collection. We have Desert Rose also and use them daily. My wife picked them out as our pattern back in 1987. When we registered for our wedding, the lady in the china dept at the local dept store (was Lazarus back them, just a few years ago was absorbed by Macy's) went through the selection with us as Desert Rose for our "Casual" set. Sehe then asked what we would like for our "Formal" set. We both said "Desert Rose". She was appalled. We've been very ahppy with it, through all the years and have also added some of the higher end pieces (love the cookie jar!). I feature them in many of the posts on my blog, too.
