Fall Family Room

The family room is all decorated for fall!

Before I start decorating any room, I try to have a theme in mind.   I decide what colors and fabrics I would like to use.   I look thru my stash to see what I already have on hand....then I make a list of what I need (and try to only buy what I need when I go to the store..lol)   This year I am loving burlap, and I already had a bunch of pink pumpkins.................

that I used last year on the table in the formal dining room.   (My theme last year was "Pink Pumpkins for the Cure" in honor of my mother.)  So my theme this year is "Pink Pumpkins and Burlap".

I started by hanging a big picture over the mantle.  The "picture" is a large frame with fabric stapled to it.   I think it makes a great backdrop for the fall decor.   I added some burlap flowers and fall accessories to my favorite wreath to make it the centerpiece of the mantle.   The ruffled skirt on the mantle is a combination of muslin, burlap, lace and pink fabric to make a "valance".

The mantle is decorated with owls, roses, sweater pumpkins, and some fall burlap flowers.  The only thing I bought new for the mantle is a few burlap flowers and some burlap ribbon from HL.  I had everything else on hand.....I'm a hoarder....

I decorated the pink pumpkins with roses and burlap ribbon.....

Then stacked them on each side of the fireplace by the columns.   I decided to decorated a small white tree for fall and put it on a table to the left of the fireplace.

There are small pumpkins, acorns, glittered bird houses, and roses on the tree.....also a cute little bird couple at the bottom. (the center picture)  I stocked up on these cute acorn ornaments last year when they were 90% off.

Next to the tree is a sofa table that I put a white owl on and filled a vintage train case with dried pumpkin stems.

I love to add dried stems to my fabric pumpkins.
I couldn't decide which grouping I liked better on the coffee table.  Which do you like better?

Our family room is the "hub" of our home.  The first picture shows how it opens into the formal dining room.

The second photo is taken from the door to the kitchen.  You can see how the small dining room sits on the right side of the path.   The path starts at the kitchen, then the family room, and finally the sun room.

The third photo was taken standing in the opening to the sun room.  You can see all the way to the kitchen.  When we have a "house full" of company, I can be cooking in the kitchen and still see what is going on in the family room AND the sun room!  I don't want to miss anything!!!

Thanks for dropping in today....come back soon!

  1. Oh my gosh Penny... your home looks beautiful for Fall!... and no, you are not a "hoarder"... you are "a collector of fine objects"... like me!... tee hee hee... I am shopping at home more and more to use things I already have, then buying only a few new things as needed to add... love the table setting in the photo on the left, with the roses in the pitcher... and I too saved all my pumpkin stems from last year and dried them... can't wait to make some pumpkins!... I am one who still LOVES pink and PINK pumpkins!... xoxo Julie Marie

  2. Hi Penny. Now, don't call yourself a hoarder! A true hoarder doesn't even have a chair to sit on and I can see the cushions on your sofa! Your passion is collecting and everything you put together is just perfect. I really like how you use the valance to make a ruffle on your mantle..Happy Wednesday..Judy

  3. I never would have thought of pink for fall decor, but I like it! The pink pumpkins are really pretty. Last year (for Tea Time Tuesday) I spray painted some mini pumpkins pink and added glitter. They looked really pretty. Have a blessed day, Beth

  4. Oh Penny everything is so soft and pretty and you incorporated all the fall elements without any orange. And this is not hoarding, this is meticulous arranged belongings that have captured your heart and speak to your soul. Hoarding doesn't do that. xo

  6. Penny!! WOW!! You are way ahead of the game with Fall. Everything looks beautiful!! I love the thin white tree!! Where did you get that??? You know me with trees. I also love how your floors look. Can you tell that I am obsessed with wood floors since I will have mine in a month!! And no, I have not started to pack away a thing to get ready for the re-model!! I will be starting tomorrow as I have 2 days off.
I am broken hearted that i can't decorate for Fall and Halloween but I am going to do our church's Harvest Tea as a Hostess this year. My table theme is going to be "Quoth the Raven, Nevermore" and I will be using all my Black and White Halloween decorations from my Dining Room...Once I get the house put back together after the remodel, I will start right into CHristmas decorating so I hope to be ahead of that game this year....

    Hugs,
    Deb
