H and I drove over to an estate sale in a small Texas town today.......it's about 40 miles north of Lubbock, Texas. Hale Center is such a charming little town, I couldn't resist taking a few photo's to share with you.
In early 2000 the town undertook a beautification project for their down town area. A beautiful southwest mural is hand painted on almost all of the buildings on Main street. |
They had signs to direct you to the estate sale. More about the estate sale another day....let's take a tour of the sweet little town.... |
Look at the tree growing up thru this old pick up truck.... |
There has been so much rain in the last couple of weeks in this area that the little ponds are really swollen!. |
The porch on this old abandoned cabin is almost covered with water. |
Mama and baby..... |
Horses drinking from the pond.... |
I'm going to just let you scroll down the pictures of the large hand painted southwest scenes on some of the buildings on Main street.... |
This is the old Hale Center train station and caboose..... |
There are other buildings and lots of old farm equipment at the Hale Center museum. |
How cute is this small beauty shop on Main street! |
The cactus are blooming..... |

Silverton, OR has about 20+ murals and even have maps to help you find them. Here in Oregon City there are a few murals, some pretty old. I love one I found in West Linn, OR at a gas station which is very similar to your first one!
ReplyDeleteMurals are fun to find and photograph.
Here are some Silverton ones: http://poetrose24.blogspot.com/2010/07/silverton-oregon.html

That little town is so lucky to have an artist(s) that has taken an interest in keeping the old buildings from becoming eyesores like many small towns have come to. Thanks for sharing, Penny.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet and relaxing... Thank you for taking us there, Penny and Mr. H!
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day to you!
Wow those murals are so cool, we have a town about 10 miles from here that does the same thing, very neat. We lived in Lubbock back in the early 80's for about 4 years. Can't believe there use to be drought and now getting all that rain. Looks like it was an interesting day!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo!
ReplyDeleteA Texas blogger and a beautiful small Texas town!
I am in heaven.
I live in South Texas- the Rio Grande Valley.

I love when small towns have murals painted on the walls of businesses. Love these photos.
ReplyDeleteSomeone is a fabulous artist for all the towns murals, what a great way to add character to the towns walls. I love small towns but we never made it to visit Lubbock or those near by towns when we lived in Dallas.

Such beautiful murals, Penny... thank you so much for sharing them for Let's Talk Vintage! last week.
ReplyDeleteSomeone was a very talented artist and the artwork will be appreciated by many for years to come.
Thank you for the walk down memory lane! I used to live in Hale County and haven't been to Hale Center since 1978. It has really changed a lot from the nondescript town I remember.
