I Buy Ugly Houses

Don't be so quick to "pass" on the ugly houses you see at yard sales.....those ugly ducklings can turn into swans with a little paint and some trim...lol!

Sometimes I just brush paint on the existing colors that I don't like,  but this one got sprayed all over with white spray paint.

On this one,   I just brushed paint on the roof,  pillars,  steps,  and and window frames.     I just use craft paint....like folkart or whatever brand has the color I like.

Once I have the houses painted,  the fun really begins.   I hot glue all kinds of trim on them.      I found the rose trim and sacks of roses in the photo on the left at Joann's and the trims in the photo on the right came from HL.

I was able to do both houses with 2 yards of the rose trim and one package of the individual roses.

I bought 5 rolls of trim at HL and used about 3/4 of it on these two houses.

I've tried to get plenty of close up's to give you an idea of how I applied the trims

I took my photos on the kitchen counter because the lighting is so good......

But this is not where I plan to leave my new houses......

I will add the lights and show you where they found a home later!

  25. Very Cute, Penny. Yes, there are so many of these big ugly houses in the thrift stores. I tossed an idea of Halloween houses, but I barely have enough room to store, my Christmas collection. Kudos to you for making sow's ears into swans! grins, Sandi

  26. Penny these are stunners. Too cute and you wouldn't let any little kids near them either or they would distroy these beauties. Exquisite work. Pinning and sharing.
