The Old Home Place

H and I have lived in the home you see in my posts for about 8 years.   Where did we come from? ......a lovely townhouse that we had lived in for 25 years.    We have kept it in case we might want a smaller home to retire in.
It has been a rental all these years that we have been gone...and occupied the entire time.   When the last  tenant moved out,  we took the opportunity to do a few updates.

Come on in!
The entry is  a small area as you come in the front door,,.....to the left of the entry is the kitchen ....and to the right is the living area.

There is a small closet pantry in the kitchen,  but I needed a little more storage.    H built me this wonderful pantry area using the snack bar ( see it up on the legs) that ran down the center of the kitchen.  Then he built a tower on each side of the snack bar.

The snack bar that H used for the new pantry was attached to the small wall that you see on the far right of this photo.   By removing the snack bar and repurposing it ,  it opened up the galley kitchen area and the small eating area and made  a nice sized  room.

Our rental has been managed by Remax all these years,  and we used their contractor to do all the updates that we wanted done.    We had them install a granite coutertop,  new faucet, and stainless steel sink in the kitchen.
The kitchen/dining area opens into the family room.

The family room is good sized and full of light.   Some of the updates that we did while we lived there was to paint the dark wood cabinets a bright white and have mirrors and overhead lights installed.   We took out the beige carpet and laid laminate floors....yes we laid them ourselves.   H took out the sliding doors and installed french doors that go out to the sunroom.

H installed beadboard  and made a pretty cornice for these windows.

The fireplace was a very plain  when we moved in..  The brick was orange and the fireplace  had a big railroad tie for a mantle.    This is how it looked after H did his magic.

Here you can see how the French doors open out to the sunroom.    Big windows surround the sunroom and you can see......

the neighbors home's and the common areas.

This is the hallway that leads to the utility room....2 bathrooms...and 3 bedrooms.

The contractor put in new toilets, sliding shower doors,  mirrors,  sinks,  faucets,  cabinets,  floor tile and granite countertops.

The second bath got the same overhaul....lol!

I was so excited to be in our old home today.....maybe we will return there some day when our currant home becomes too big for us to take care of.    Our home now is over 3500 sq feet....our old home place is about 1700 sq feet..

We have a huge yard now.....this is the only yard at the townhouse that is the owners responsibility to take care of.   The area's beyond the fence are maintained by the association.     The area that has concrete pavers instead of brick used to be a big pond with Koi fish in it.   We filled it in with dirt.....tenants don't want that kind of stuff!

I hope you enjoyed my walk down memory lane!

  6. Penny,
I so enjoyed seeing your townhouse rental!! Is it one level? It is very pretty and roomy! Ours is a little over 1000 sq. ft. so yours is much larger than ours. I keep saying that our next move is down the street and into an apartment in the same Apartment Complex where our sons live.
    Hugs,
    Deb
